After all the crap the Democrats in the MSM have poured out in the last few weeks, they have absolutely no business telling Republicans what they can and can't say.

This is the difference between conservatives and the anti-American crowd.

We want to see clean government.

They, on the other hand, don't care how corrupt their people are -- just so long as they continue in power.

The dark Clintoon years were an unforgettable demonstration of this fact.

No I'm not. If he lied to a grand jury he has perjured himself.

Example #1:
Did you reveal that Mr. Wilson's wife was a CIA agent?

Rove: Yes

Democrats: See we have him he did it, he did it!

Problem:

She was not covert and therefore there was no crime commited.

Result:

Rove cleared because he never committed a crime and the dems look like their moronic selves.

Example #2:
Did you reveal that Mr. Wilson's wife was a CIA agent?

Rove: No

Problem:
There is proof that he did and he has now perjured himself.

Result:
Democrats: See he is liar, the whole administration lies, hang them all.

The dems now have more ammo and the American people see Rove as a liar and now question the integrity of the administration.

Like it or not, this is the truth.

An admittedly simplified version, but I think it makes the point.

I could not agree more. The end does not justify the means, I always believe there is another way to get there.

That is, if you assume all of the 'leaks' we have been reading about are indeed leaks, and not speculation made up out of whole cloth by "journalists"...

Bingo. The media is setting themselves up for a win-win situation. If there are indictments (of the right people, of course) then they win. If there are no indictments then they can howl loudly about "obstruction of justice" and "perjury".

I agree, if Rove or Libby lied deliberately to the grand jury then they should face the penalty and step down immediately.

Even though this whole tempest in a teacup is a witch hunt over a non-crime about a non-spy married to a non-inspector.

What angers me most is that neither Rove nor Libby nor anyone else under investigation is the real target for the Dem witch hunters; their real target of course is President Bush.

If a single indictment is forthcoming against anyone, that will be the signal to try and hang this ridiculous albatross around Bush's neck.

It's such a shame since the entire premise of the 'crime' is utter BS. Valerie the spy is utter BS, Wilson the weapons inspector is utter BS.

The main issue is this: Was Valerie Plame a covert agent?
If yes, we have an issue. If no, then there is no crime.
Am I correct or am I being too simplistic?

You are not being simplistic.

This is looking like a Martha Stewart-type prosecution.

If you can't prove the original crime, then drag your intended target before the grand jury four times and trap him in conflicting stories.

If Plame was not outed by anybody, then Fitzgerald should simply drop the case.

But, I fear he has caught the "prosecutor run amok" disease.

I think we can safely say that there was no crime committed there.

This has been my question all along. If no crime was committed by outing her role as a desk clerk, then why was a Special Prosecutor assigned in the first place? It should not take years to determine if the 'outing' was a crime or not.

Anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty will admit that.

Ever hear of a 'kangaroo' court?

If they lied while under oath in a Grand Jury then they have perjured themselves.

And with no underlying crime, it makes Fitzgerald look like a guy who has to justify two years of his salary.

It didn't. Several stories have said that Fitz knew within two months that there was no outing of a covert CIA agent.

But, apparently, he suspected that somebody was "covering up" in their stories.

Instead of stopping right there, Fitz decides he will catch the guy.

This is the equivalent of somebody lying about a burglary that never took place.

I am not saying that this whole thing isn't bush league. It is, but that does not justify lying. This is a chess game and you need to think of all the repurcussions 4, 5, even 6 steps out in front. See my horribly simplified post 43

If indictments DO come, then the torches and pitchforks will head directly for the White House and demand the head of Bush.

If indictments DON'T come, then the torches and pitchforks will claim the Bush admin is so corrupt that they won't indict themselves.

End result: a lot of ridiculous torches and pitchforks camped outside the WH, with Cindy Sheehan tying herself to the fence laughing, and the 2008 wannabes gluing themselves to TV cameras to denounce the 'culture of corruption' that dared to allow either 1.-indictments or 2.-no indictments in this massive, massive scandal that resulted in everyone in America except Valerie Plame's neighbors (who already knew she worked for CIA) and the rest of DC (who already knew she worked for CIA) knowing the identity of a double-naught spy and her despicable partisan husband.

"Don't worry the pubs won't. They listen to the Dems like beaten a poodle.
We've been warned....we're sorry! we're sorry. Please forgive me pleeease."

Man, you are right there. I know that they thank me for my support, and I would like to thank them for educating me. Never again will I vote for anyone just because there is an "R" after his or her name. And before anyone gets a wild hair, no- I will not vote for a democrat, ever. I am irritated at the lack of a will to stand up to the left, and the next Republican I vote for had better assure me that he/she will. That's all.

I saw your post. It is a misuse of prosecutorial discretion to indict someone on a perjury charge (virtually impossible to prove anyway, which is why there are so few perjury convictions) when there is no crime which the perjury affects.

If Fitz indicts on mere perjury, I hope the GOP blasts the hell out of him.
