The War on Christmas : The Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday
amazon ^ | Oct 20 05 | John Gibson

Posted on 10/20/2005 1:08:53 PM PDT by churchillbuff

Yes, Virginia, there is a war on Christmas. It’s the secularization of America’s favorite holiday and the ever-stronger push toward a neutered "holiday" season so that non-Christians won’t be even the slightest bit offended.

Traditionalists get upset when they’re told—more and more these days—that celebrating Christmas in any public way is a violation of church and state separation. That is certainly not what the founders intended when they wrote, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

John Gibson, a popular anchor for the Fox News Channel, has been digging up evidence about the liberal activists, lawyers, politicians, educators, and media people who are leading the war on Christmas. And he reveals that the situation is worse than you can imagine. For instance:

• In Illinois, state government workers were forbidden from saying the words "Merry Christmas" while at work • In Rhode Island, local officials banned Christians from participating in a public project to decorate the lawn of City Hall • A New Jersey school banned even instrumental versions of traditional Christmas carols • Arizona school officials ruled it unconstitutional for a student to make any reference to the religious history of Christmas in a class project

Millions of Americans are starting to fight back against the secularist forces and against local officials who would rather surrender than be seen as politically incorrect. Gibson shows readers how they can help save Christmas from being twisted beyond recognition, with even the slightest reference to Jesus completely disappearing.

I didn't know school officials had judicial power.

The war you're talking about is the war for the almighty retail dollar.

Let me know when they start locking up folks celebrating Christmas.

Any time anyone wishes me "Happy Holidays", I answer cheerily with "Merry Christmas!" (Unless the person is wearing a Star of David, in which case my response is "Happy Hannukkah!")

My small contribution to the war effort.

Ask these "Christmas haters" if they plan to go to work
on Dec. 25. If you hate it that much, just go into your
office and make like it's another workday. (I don't mean
the folks like police, fire, etc. who often are forced
to work the holiday... I mean that guy or gal in your
office who gets all hot and bothered when you wish them
a Merry Christmas. Ask them if they plan to volunteer to
work on Dec. 25--straight time.)

How on earth can you discuss Christmas without referring to religious history? Impossible.

I'll bet the discussion of that fake 40 year old holiday,Kwanzaa,is okay though.

I'm not overly religious but this stuff makes me MAD!!!!!

» The war you're talking about is the war for the almighty retail dollar.

Excellent point, and to many people's dismay (including mine), retailers have willing accomplices in the "PC" sterilization/neutralization of Christmas.

I say, if they don't want to observe the human Incarnation of our Lord Jesus, then I'm under no obligation to partake in the ritual orgy of consumerism every December by buying stuff at their crummy stores.

Everytime they advertise a "Holiday Sale" we should call the retailers and jam their lines and ask "What holiday?"

Until we all wise up and stop spending money during the Christmas season the retailers could care less what it is called.

And we are all guilty of the overspending.

Let's put Christ back in Christmas for heaven's sake.

Actually that would be during the Advent season. Very little shopping gets done in the Christmas Season, except the day after Christmas.

Yes...by the way I work nights for the Postal Service and usually have to work Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve unless it falls on a weekend (and sometimes I get forced in; last year
New Year's Day fell on a Saturday and I was supposed to get
Friday off as a substitute holiday but was forced in...
at straight time.)

Yes, some people usually do have to work on Christmas Eve or
New Year's Eve--day jobs, though. It's a luxury for me to have them off though it will happen this year. We have a First Night celebration in my small city (concerts, etc.) but in most cases by the time I get home from work it's
already past midnight and everything's over. "What did you do for New Year's?"..."Oh, I sorted mail..."

But this year I should have both off.

"No tax in any amount, large or small, can be levied to support any religious activities" (Everson v. The Board of Education - 330 US 1 1947)... Really? James 1:27 says the essence of true religion is taking care of widows and orphans. Religious organizations have been carrying out these activities for centuries. To say "no tax" can be levied to support widows makes the entire Social Security system unconstitutional? What say the liberal?

There are so many other ways to solve the problem. For the last few years, I've been getting Christmas gifts from the Catholic Relief Services "Work of Human Hands" catalogue. Nifty handmade items, not too expensive, the sale of which helps hard working entrepreneurs in third world countries.

And the crass materialism, etc. But we shouldn't allow ourselves to get distracted.

In recent years, I have tried (with extra scrutiny) to search out and find the authentic Christian expressions during December. And to do as much as possible in the way of my own part in helping to promote the true Christian symbolism and meaning. We don't have to get caught up in the agitation and despair. Christmas presents an opportunity to bring the message of Christ to a society which has lost much of its spiritual and moral heritage.

"they come out earlier every year"

Yeah, just like Chris... er I mean holiday decorations.

Last year, in these parts, some goober opened a lot selling what he called "holiday trees". Come Christmas Eve, his lot was still almost filled with these "holiday trees".

Sometimes life is sweet.

Everyone can say they will do this and that about what they will do to retailers, but they will still buy from someone.

It was estimated that in 2004 there were 224,437,959 adult Christians in America.

Of this number how many will boycott the retailers?

If this Christmas every Christian decided not to buy 1 product from any company that doesn't support "Christmas" (not buy from the happy holiday stores), even if it means spending a little more at the other store, then you can bet next year they will change their tune or watch their competitor who does support Christmas have another wonderful year.

Problem being, most Christians won't. Just watch the sales of all the companies after Christmas is over and you will see no difference. Just the ignorance/indifference of most, not all, but most Christians.
