True. Consider that Nixon thought Burger and Blackmun were "strict constructionists." Heck, Reagan thought Kennedy was a "strict constructionist." How you "strictly construe" an emanating penumbra that isn't in the Constitution is beyond me, but those judges thought they could do it.

If a President cannot get the qualified, reasonable Supreme Court appointments he wants through a senate composed of a majority of his party then that President is a lame-duck in every sense of the word. Intermural fighting over the choice, while interesting, only further wounds an already wounded leader. The time to have debated the one we wanted to choose SCOTUS members was during the 2004 campaign. It's over, Bush won and he deserves to get his way. No good can come from second-guessing or hand-wringing or throwing a fit if "our choice" chooses someone we wouldn't have choosen. Unless she is unqualified, Harriet Miers should become an associate justice for good or for ill!

You NAILED IT Ol' Sparky! Hugh Hewitt is a RNC Hack who never questions W's position on any arguement.

I used to be a fan of Hugh's show until I noticed a pattern of never questioning Pres. Bush's actions. In addition, the constant visitations on his show from David Dryer and John Campbell are ALWAYS nothing more than a RNC love-fest.

Finally, Hugh's patronizing of anyone that would disagree with the Mier's selection shows his intellectual snobbery and conceit.

Those that trust Pres. Bush blindly regarding Meir's are in fact fools. There are red flags all over this nomination.

Separately: Has President Bush purchased a red pen yet?
