"Wartelle would not comment on why the officers may have taken the cars or whether they were used in the line of duty. I vote for line of duty. They needed them to get out of town with more loot than they could physically carry.

Every officer that had ANYTHING to do with this fiasco needs to do SERIOUS prison time.

Forklift, blowtorch, jimmied ignitions. Really!!!
I vote for housing the thieves in a locked box on the second floor of a prison.

These cops are just a cross-section of the population of that city. Why should we expect they would act any better than the street thugs?

1970 El Camino Didn't BJ Clinton have a 1970 El Camino (with astroturf in back)?

I just found a quote from him:
"It had astro-turf in the back. I don't want to tell you what the astro-turf was for.".

Love that it seats three...toss in a overhead sun/rain protector and I am sold on that baby:)

No wonder they didn't want any armed responders in the city.

The cops borrowed them... as Boss Hogg would be the first to tell you - the government borrows stuff. For every one else, its plain old-fashioned stealing.

Yup, that's where I found the quote in my post #11.

New Orleans police officers broke into a dealership and made off with nearly 200 cars
----How else would they be able to leave the city with all the stuff they stole?
