Ex-president Bill Clinton is predicting that the U.S. will lose the war in Iraq, saying "the odds are not great of our prevailing there."
In an interview with the Ladies Home Journal due out next month, Clinton calls the Iraq war "a quagmire" and warns "it could go wrong."
He reminded: "Since the end of World War II, the only major foreign power that succeeded in putting down an insurgency was the British putting down the Malay insurgency, but the British stayed 15 years."
"So you can say for historical reasons, the odds are not great of our prevailing there," he argued.
Despite Clinton's prediction of U.S. failure, he said analogies to Vietnam were not fair. "The reason this is not Vietnam is that 58 percent of the eligible voters showed up and voted in Iraq," he told the Journal.
On the other hand, he said, the South Vietnamese government was "never legitimate" in the eyes of the Vietnamese.
Clinton spokesman Jay Carson immediately sought to tone down the ex-president morale-busting remarks, telling the New York Daily News:
"President Clinton has always been clear that there are reasons for optimism and that there clearly are reasons for concern with the current situation in Iraq. But no one has been clearer than President Clinton about the necessity of winning now that we are there."
This hillbilly should be beat with a cane poll, and I volunteer for that duty.
Well, he does have a great military mind, you know.
How are things in Bosnia these days, you CONVICTED LIAR?
That's it! I'm doing whatever I can to oppose his butt-ugly wife.
It's really neat how Dumbya did his little part in helping rehabilitate Clinton's image.
I like Dubya but he sure is a head-scratcher sometimes.
Bill Clinton, the brave warrior of Somalia, WTC 1, USS Cole... is not qualified to lecture anyone on security.
Only if I get to help!
Has this jackazz EVER been right about ANY aspect of foreign affairs?
When will GHWB's friend the aging porn star just STFU!
WE'RE DOOMED!!! Bill says we should just give up and go quietly in the night.
In a certain sense, he is right.
Whatever the outcome of the Iraq war, the left and the MSM will declare it a total failure.
As a professor I know used to say with regard to incorrect answers on exams, "Wishing won't make it so."
Hey, Bill? Shut your pie-hole, why dontcha.
Why in the hell would this whore monging idiot publicly say this? What a prick!
Yea really that confused me too. I guess Clinton wormed his way into Bush Sr.'s heart. I am chocking it up to Bush and his family being really kind hearted people.
I wish I could express how I feel about the turd from Arkansas but I really dont need the Secret Service knocking on my door.
Yes, that is what he would like - anything to beat Bush.
Clinton is acting like he's running for something - thePresident asks him to raise money for hurricane victims and he tours New Orleans to see how to spend it. He holds a global conference and now calls Iraq a quagmire.
I don't think it helps Hillary - particularly since she may have trouble with the Senate before the Presidential race even starts....
maybe this stuff helps him raise money for library.
Hey, stop posting this stuff!
We're too busy fighting amongst ourselves to pay attention.
Does he mean like we lost in Somalia and Yugoslavia?
I can't believe this ASS would do this.
Who's Bill Clinton?
Better a president to lead and win that has cajones than one who plays with his cajones while Americans die.......
Dooom on Bubbafucco and his band of Clintonistas !
Yes, that is what he would like - anything to beat Bush.
Talk like this directly helps the enemy in killing our people. It is simply despicable, but what else do you expect from scum like Bill Clinton.
Ah...Mr. Carson...that should be MR. Clinton to you....and to anyone else who would dare to think of this man in presidential terms.
What about the Falklands, Bill? Or doesn't that count?
What else can we expect from the man who at an early age claimed to "loathe the military."
He will always be a dope-smoking, lying, womanizing, media-whore, traitorous POS who used the Oval Office as romper room.
"President Clinton has always been clear that there are reasons for optimism and that there clearly are reasons for concern with the current situation in Iraq. But no one has been clearer than President Clinton about the necessity of winning now that we are there."
Courtesy of Clinton's interpreter, Jay Carson.
Well, he does have a great military mind, you know.
BUBBA should stick with something he understands........like BL-W J-BS.
Now this is interesting and I'm sure well thought out. Hillary has supported this war. Does she need a graceful way out of supporting it to appeal to her leftist base? And Bill's pronouncement will encourage her to do that? Or does she need to appear her own woman and able to stand up to the former president? Is he saying this to give her an opportunity to show her stuff. Sorry, poor choice of words. Or does this give the Bill/Hill team a way to cover all their bases so that they can just lift a finger to the wind to make future policy choices like Bill did in his presidency?
By the way, you're still a traitorous stain upon the Presidency. You should've resigned and you have no honor, and your demoralizing comments against our troops are just the latest bit of evidence in that regard.
This dink is a Chinese agent. Has been for decades.
I like Dubya but he sure is a head-scratcher sometimes.

He and his father are too kind for their own good. They are trying to bring the sociopath up to their level, but they only succeed in diminishing themselves.
"In a certain sense, he is right.
Whatever the outcome of the Iraq war, the left and the MSM will declare it a total failure."
If we can pull out there in a couple of years and leave a reasonably peaceful reasonably stable democracy that will a victory it will be hard to spin any other way.
ROFLMAO You got that right!
That son of a bitch.
What a jerk. How does this ninkcompoop think these words will be greeted by US armed forces in Iraq?
Mr. Clinton should keep his big yap shut...and what in blazes is he doing sitting down for an interview with the "Ladies Home Journal"? Do you reckon he's a subscriber?
Geez.
Exactly! I'm tired of this fraud ex-president and his merry band of troublemakers.
"What about the Falklands, Bill? Or doesn't that count?"
Count as what? It certainly doesn't count as an insurgency if that's the part you're referring to. The inhabitants of the Islands were very much in favour of being under British control.
Bush's fault!
(Come to think of it I'm sure he's been told that a bazillion times....so nevermind on that suggestion, but I call dibs at second with the cane pole)
You can afford to be a little gracious in those circumstances.
(Although I loved it the other day when Bush listed Somalia as one of the things that encouraged the Islamofascists.)
Yep, and Hillbilly Clinton and his friends will do all they can to see to it the war goes wrong. And if it doesn't go wrong, the media will make it look that way, so Clinton knows that making this seditious prediction is a safe bet. If the war goes bad he's right. If we continue kicking butt in Iraq and the media continue reporting the direct opposite, he's still right, (in the eyes of his scummy komrades).
Whatever he says or does from now until the 2008 election will be an effort to get his felonious wife elected president. I'm not sure how stating we will lose in Iraq wins the witch votes but you can bet that's what he had in mind.
He's like Kramer when Jerry made a bad stock purchase.
Cosmo Clinton is enjoying this just a bit too much.
