"Does Israel have a missile that can carry a nuke warhead? One or two is all that would be necessary............"

Many say yes. But they have not officiallt confirmed. I would expect that we have given them everything they need to effectively defend their existance. It is a controversial topic to say the least.

Somebody lights off a nuke in the ME and you think it will end at that?

"That's an intelligent point, but consider this: things may continue to get less stable in Iraq until we push forward into Iran."

Another thought, which may be wishful thinking, uses a mediocre to strong Iraqi military ally in teh next round of conflict in the middle east. If they develop into a nation that can take care of itself, they would also act a nice security buffer to our rear as we advance into the mountains in Iran.

No but it would do more good than doing what we are doing.

About $25 of every bbl today is related to the fear factor; higher insurance for tankers, security at truck loading racks, etc. Taking Iran out of the equation would remove most of this. As far as WW III, we're already there.

The Muslim Arabs know only force. Use of a greater force than they have and they will cower. It's their nature. They will make a lot of noise and wail and moan and curse and threat, but in the end they will do nothing because they can't. If Israel uses a nuke on Iran's nuclear facilities the Arab street will go wild, but will be helpless to retaliate. Aure, more terrorism, suicide bombers, etc. but that is nothing compared to a nuclear explosion............

I fear this will not end well.

I would have to agree.

Ultimately, it must be - it WILL be - the Israelis who take action against Iran, because the United States will refuse to do so.

We won't attack because - regardless of how savvy G.W. Bush might be - he will not engage the U.S. in another ground war in the Mideast. He - and the rest of the Republicans - lack the intestinal fortitude to take this bull by the horns. He - and the rest of the Republicans - seems afraid to risk whatever standing he (and they) have with the American people.

When Mr. Bush spoke of the "Axis of Evil" back in 2001, I believed him. I believed [at that time] he had the resolve, and that the country would back him up. I no longer believe either of those things.

Time's a-wastin' with Iran. Diplomacy isn't going to work. It isn't working now. Does ANYone believe it is going to _start_ working, as they get closer to the bomb? If anything, continuing diplomacy gives them more time in which to attain their goals. Our objective is to DESTROY their "goals".

I wish it were different. But the sad truth is, the United States is not militarily capable of a full-scale (a la Europe 1945) ground war against Iran that totally subdues that nation. And the sadder truth is the American people no longer seem to be willing to wage a major war of any kind against any one, for any reason.

On the other hand, the Israelis have no choice in the matter. They _know_ that Iran (and the rest of Islam, if truth be told) is their ENEMY (with all that that word implies). Kill or be killed - a stark reality.

Israel must act out of the realization of self-preservation, and be willing to absorb the opprobrium of the entire world, if necessary. One doesn't give a damn about opprobrium when one's life is on the line.

Cheers!

If Israel wants to take out Iran's nukes, let them do it.
I don't see why we should do it for them.

If Iran is taken off line then the oil markets will go up another $20, maybe more.

Call it an escalation of WWIII then....

We've been warned about fifty times now Israel. If you are not gonna use all that free military hardware we gave you, well then give it back. BTW, stop selling our technology to the Chinese while you are at it, gangsters!

It’s tough to argue with what you’ve written, but consequences of using a nuclear weapon are, in large measure, unknowable and long lasting.

Of course there are consequences of allowing nuts like the mullahs in Iran to have a nuke. My understanding of the nature of Iran’s nuclear facilities is they are impregnable to conventional weapons.

There’s no way the US has the recourses or the will to subdue Iran absent some extreme provocation.

I’m glad it’s not my decision to make.

I have said the same thing a thousand times about Israel - either you're our friend or you're not. STOP the damn spying and STOP the damn technology transfers. We give you more than enough support to expect that you would take our side when it comes down to it.

Firstly, the Iranians are not Muslim Arabs. They are Persians, who chafe at the thought that they are members of the same civilization as the Arabs. Persians consider Arabs to be tribes with flags, nothing more. The Iranians consider themselves to be the inheritors of Darius and Xerxes. Sadly, they are forgetting what happened when Darius met Alexander.

The visit by the Israelis and their public statement is no accident. The fact that Secretary Rice and President Bush have made no statements in response is no accident as well. The failure of European diplomacy is there for all to see. Indeed, the arrogance of President Ahmenajedad at the U.N. turned some previously sympathetic powers against Iran.

For their part, the Arabs are frightened of a Persian bomb. That implies a Persian condominium in the Gulf, with the Arab League states being mere satraps to a new Persian order.

This visit, and this story, did not happen by accident.

There will be no invasion of Iran. But there will be a strike.

It is, sadly, the only way.

Be Seeing You,

Chris
