I just went and got the mail, and in it is the Consumer Reports annual electronics issue, November 2005. Has lots of advice on HDTVs and talks about plasma sets. You might want to get a copy and check out what it has to say. I'll send this as a Freepmail as well, in case you've stopped reading this thread.

HA! I'm still watching my old "B" SciFi movies on a Philco Predicta! Glorious black & white!

Oops. Gotta get up and fix the vertical...

Thanks, everyone, for your astute input. I am now better informed.

Me on the other hand, spend *way* too much of
my time in front of one screen or another, so,
better, brighter, bigger, lighter, lower power use,
less eye strain..these are points of daily inteest
to me. The eyes are allready going to a degree...
Had to get glasses for the first time
last year..can't imagine the're going to get
*better* as the years go on.

Old 1980's Zenith Space Command still going for me, I have to smack it like Fonzi to get it started ( anybody know exactly what causes that?).

The color saturation is better than many new tubes marketed today.

Oh. I had visions of squid giving up their cells for our entertainment centers.
