Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.
J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.
Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.
Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.
The R&R HOF could burn to the G*D Dmaned ground for all I care!
John Mellencamp? That's a joke, right? He's so smalltown.
Its only Rock n Roll....
I can't believe those haven't had the "honor". Never heard of half those nominated this year. Of course, with Cat Stevens' wacked beliefs, he'll be a shoe in.
What -- The Trashmen still not nominated? No justice, no peace.
Left out : Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, Deep Purple
In : John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Cat Stevens, the Sir Douglas Quintet
Yea , Id have to agree with ya .
Jann Wener, fag, has said Rush will never get in.
but I like it
...but, I like it.
Actually, I like jazz, but somebody had to finish your quote. :)

If these bands can't get inducted, I might as well forget about Motorhead getting in. Black Sabbath, Skynyrd, Alice Cooper, ELO, Van Halen, even Deep Purple? Jeez, what's wrong with the judges?
In other words, people who don't know anything about rock and roll are making the selections to the "rock and roll hall of fame".
Once an entity or foundation goes to government funding to keep it alive, you can tell it's significance and purpose is in the sewer. Now it's just about salaries and perks for it's board. The award or achievement of getting in will soon be as meaningless as an Oscar, a Pulitzer or getting to stand behind Ted Kennedy when he makes a speech.
"Blood on the Scarecrow" was the BEST pro-farmer, anti-bank statement ever written. Too bad his politics got in the way.
Now why in the *heck* would the "Picasso of Jazz" even be considered for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?!? And excuse me but the Sir Douglas Quintet?!?
Somebody's hittin' the pipe waaaay too often.
Duran Duran deserves to be in the HOF they made MTV popular and defined what a music video should be. But I have to question how J Geils got nominated. They may have fun songs but they aren't legends or anything like that.
That's a joke.
I nominate Ted Nugent if he hasn't been nominated already....

Rush made stellar music: Red Barchetta is a Top Ten driving song. And so is Highway Star...no news there, I know. Van Halen -- seen them about a dozen times live. Saw Yes, in their various lineups, a few times, too. I could praise all the above in some way. ELO -- Rockaria :-) Patty B -- good stuff. And I would like to add The Cars to that list.
Whammer Jammer..difinitive harmonica solo.
"Sir Douglas Quintet"
Sure, why not...and the 1910 Fruit Gum Company, the Cowsills, the Partridge Family, the Archies....
I don't think any Rock liberals should be admitted in to the Rock Hall of Fame.....so I guess this leaves Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper......:)
Lynyd Skynyrd doen'thave a prayer of getting in...ever.
Reason?...."Sweet Home Alabama"
I like Butterfield and J. Giels. Stuff the rest.
Nugent already holds the record for the largest bear taken with a bow, and his politics are legendary.
Seger has been snubbed for years, and is from Detroit. Many people believe the RRHOF is biased against Midwesterners, and when you see who is nominated and selected, that seems to be true.
The Strawberry Alarm Clock gets my vote
I hear "John Cougar" lives in a little pink house.....
I remember a local (Minneapolis, where they were from) article that the Trashmen had "Beatlemania" status in South America. One hit wonders here, however.
They are really reaching the bottom of the barrel if they consider any of those acts as "hall of fame" material.
What happened to the Untimate Spinach nomination?
It may be a disgrace, but I would like Dave Clark 5 to win (even knowing that the politically correct choice will be Yussuf Islam so that he can bash the President in his speech).
...and Thunderclap Newman?
Got the lyrics? Post em
The RnR Hall of Fame is a joke. By failing to nominate the band that brought hard rock back from the dark days of disco in the late '70s makes it completely irrelevant. This band featured the greatest guitarist since Hendrix and the best frontman since Plant. They put out 6 albums that featured not one bad song. They sold millions of records to rabid fans while being hated by rock critics. They were, in my humble opinion, the greatest live band to ever step onstage. I am referring, of course, to Van Halen fronted by David Lee Roth. The failure of the Hall to even nominate them is a joke. My theory as to why they have not been nominated is simple. I will illustrate it by paraphrasing something Dave said on a radio interview in the early '80s. 'The critics trash VH and love Elvis Costello. Mainly because the critics all look like Elvis Costello and are pissed that they dont look like me.'
I still like the album Scarecrow for it's music. It has another great song called Minutes to Memories. However, in retrospect, it was just a preview to his whining leftist Bush bashing of today.
If you think about it from a conservative viewpoint, which is how I think about it, nobody has any more right to survive in the farming business than they do in any other business. If you cannot survive, then it's the free market's way of telling you that there are too many farmers, and you need to go do something else for a living. Whether or not your family has been farming for generations is irrelevant. All farm subsidies should cease in my opinion.
No Iron Butterfly again this year. Damn !
Bloodshot is one of my all-time favorits albums.
"Serves you right to suffer baby. Serves you right. You gonna be alone."
Pusterfuss -- The Trashmen actually had a minor hit with a follow up called "Bird Dance Beat" that was almost indistinguishable from "Surfin' Bird." Ah, glad to know such talent was not unappreciated south of the border. You know another Minneapolis group from the mid-60s were The Castaways, who did "Liar Liar." That one I liked.
I heard he also lives in a small town, and according to the latest news, will probably die in a small town.
Whatever...
Yeah, the drum solo alone deserves its own special wing in the HOF. Peanut Butter Conspiracy also shut out again.
Yep...and no dead Kennedy's
Rush and Yes: soundtrack of my personal hell
