Among Voters in New Jersey, G.O.P. Sees Dead People
NY Times ^ | September 16, 2005 | DAVID W. CHEN

Posted on 09/16/2005 3:39:47 AM PDT by Pharmboy

TRENTON, Sept. 15 - The joke has long been that dead people vote in Hudson County, New Jersey's legendary enclave of machine politics. But now the joke may be on New Jersey, according to a new analysis of voter records by the state's Republican Party.

Comparing information from county voter registration lists, Social Security death records and other public information, Republican officials announced on Thursday that 4,755 people who were listed as deceased appear to have voted in the 2004 general election. Another 4,397 people who were registered to vote in more than one county appeared to have voted twice, while 6,572 who were registered in New Jersey and in one of five other states selected for analysis voted in each state.

At a news conference at the State House, Tom Wilson, the state's party chairman, took pains to say that the analysis did not look at voters' party affiliation. He also said that the party was not accusing voters of committing fraud, suggesting instead that someone else may have exploited their names without their knowledge.

The Blue States are a lot redder than people may think...and the joke about "How come dead people only vote democrat?" wears a bit thin when these criminals are put in office year after year under these fraudulent means.

Mayor Daley--call yer office.

This should be on going in every state from now until the next national election. Why can't there be a cross match made on every state and county to find the duplicates and dead bodies.

There are at least 4 states that will change from blue to red if Republicans work hard cleaning up the voter fraud crap. If they don't do the work the Dems won't.

Agreed, but it won't mean squat unless voter ID is enforced. That's even bigger than the dead rising on Election Day.

For sure. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any reason to get out the dead vote.

I'm sure that the number of voters in New Orleans and the number of people accounted for after Katrina will be vastly different. No wonder Mayor Nagin was trying to make 10000 people disappear.

Interesting story, my mother is retired and is heavily involved in the republican Party. She has volunteered to head up what is called the "voter vault" in our county, she is going through all the public records and updating the party rolls and comparing them to the voter records. She and my daughter get together every couple of days and go through the obituaries to cross out people, kind of macobb(?) in a way but they are finding out a lot of things wrong with the system.

"what is going to be done about it?"

The NYT teams up with conservatives against a piece of rat corruption? Something's gotta give, and I see little leverage on the side of corruption at this point-- in this one issue at least.

I don't want to see all the empty grave sites, and find bodies strewn around with ink on their fingers. I'd just as soon keep the fraud. [just kidding =]

Seriously, it's the late-night or early morning voting when the dead come out. You don't see them walking to the voting booth, because they have 'a channeller' in the building.

Here in Pittsburgh, a friend of mine volunteered to be a GOP pollwatcher last November. Out of curiosity, a fellow volunteer decided to check the voter rolls to see if her deceased parents were still on them. She discovered that true to form, though they had been Republicans all their lives, they ended up voting Democrat in the last election.

I just posted a similiar article from today's 'Star Ledger', but I'm surprised to see The New York Times covering this as well. Even with the NYT's usual spin, New Jersey voter fraud is looking more and more like Louisiana...corrupt to the core.

It seems that tying your SSN to your vote would make sense. A computer could easily tell if there were multiple hits on one number, (voting more than once, or coming back from the dead). All votes for that SSN would then be voided and in investigation started. The real person identified and if determined a victim of ID theft allowed to recast their ballot (once).

We passed that law here in GA this year. And of course, the ACLU is fighting it.

We passed Voter ID after Mary Landrieu, aka Barbara Boxer Jr., stole the Senate election from Woody Jenkins in 1996. X42 beat Dole by over 100,000 votes in Louisiana, but Landrieu only "won" by about 5,000, thanks to a last minute surge of dead voters in New Orleans.

You are correct. I'm from PA and was a poll watcher in the last election and have written numerous letters to my state senator about voter fraud, and all I get is talk, talk talk.... no action. If only living voters, voted only one time in the 2004 election GWB would have carried PA, and probably 3 or 4 other states. I'm so angry with the pubbies for talking but not doing anything about this that I could ......

The PA GOP seems to have no interest in stopping voter fraud, based on 2004 election behavior. The blue here was based on voter fraud and anger at Bush, and they had no interest in addressing either.
