Calling for commission to study also removes the responsibility from the governor to the commission.
In other words, she can't make decisions, does not want the responsibility and is totally unsuited for a governor during a crisis.

What power and authority does a congressman have in regardes to a state emergency, evacuation, national guard, US military, and relief efforts? I can't think of any. If I was a Congressman of a state and the New Orleans disaster plan was as dismal as we've seen, I'd be yelling bloody murder. Long before a hurricane arrived.
Instead, when Jindal was asked what blame local and state authorities bore for this, he insisted it wasn't their fault.
So IMO he's part of the problem here.

And this goes for male leaders too. The display put on by the President of Jefferson Parish was just as despicable as Blanco's performance. Crying in public is simply unacceptable.

It's obvious that this woman is in over her head. Too bad for the folks in Louisiana.

Where the heck is David Vitter on any of this? Blaming the feds as well.
None of this is any of their fault, apparently.

"[Blanco] likes to accumulate as much information as possible before finalizing a major decision." "She would rather be criticized for taking her time in finding the right approach than for shooting from the hip and moving in the wrong direction," Mr. Juneau wrote.
Did she ever come up with a way to save those peoples' lives? I guess that will have to wait while she comes up with a plan to raise the dead and turn back time.

I'm not saying he isn't part of the problem. Hell, I don't even know who he is. But a congressman has little to no power and/or authority with regards to this situation.

Leadership by crying. An amazing new low. If there's anything worse than a hysterical woman it's a hysterical man, like that Aaron Broussard on "Meet the Press". I wanted to punch him in the face so bad...

He would have been tailor made for this situation. He may have done a better job than Blanco, but what he seems to be doing now is running for Governor again instead of supporting the efforts of the government that he's already sworn an oath to. He and Vitter both need to stop whining.

I guess she's waiting for a study to be completed, then will assign the decision making to a committee. She should have an answer by next year.
To: milwguy
No one is this obtuse and incompetent for so long after a disaster. What is she hiding and why?
To: COUNTrecount
She's crying herself to sleep.

But a congressman has little to no power and/or authority with regards to this situation.I disagree. He probably worked long and hard to get a couple pet earmarks in the recent highway bill, instead of trying to get federal funds for disaster planning.
Unless I hear he was extremely vocal about the lack of planning in NOLA (and his district includes part of the metro area), IMO he didn't show any leadership in trying to prevent this problem from happening. A Congressman can play a lot of hardball with local and state governments and use the bully pulpit to shame them into acting.

After which, they should be removed from office and forced to do volunteer work for the Red Cross, Salvation Army and ASPCA, spending at least 6 months with each agency.
It would never happen, but I liked the thought. They must realize how unfit for public service they are and how many people have died as a result of their acts and omissions. In the event that they are, in fact, as clueless as they seem, many months of public service dealing with those affected might make them understand.
Shame. Shame. Shame.

"[Blanco] likes to accumulate as much information as possible before finalizing a major decision." Here's all the information she needed:
1 - a major hurricane is coming.
2 - you didn't prepare adequately.
3 - So hand it over to the feds.
Instead, she has tried to cover up her own incompetence at the cost of human lives.

Where's the lt. gov.? Mitch Landrieu, isn't it? Didn't he try to do anything constructive, or did he just rubber stamp Blanco's execrable decision making?
