You may be referring to an earlier time, but I believe that by the 1970s and 1980s, it was down to about 11% White. However, you might also be referring to population outside of the large tribal area in the North, by Angola. I believe that over half of the Bantu lived in that area, with very few Whites. That would make the population in the rest close to 30% White.

They used to make the best South African Beer in Windhoek, the Capital. It was a 45 minute stopover on flights to Pretoria, and SA Airlines served complementary bottles there. Very good.
