so that those most responsible will be held accountable and that the citizentry will remember NEXT time and get the Hell out when a hit is predicted.

And whom will that be? Mother nature?

I do very much agree with your second point. They should have got out of there, now they blame the government.

I agree. An evacuation plan should have been in place. But I think some of them wouldn't have left anyway but a large number of them probably would have. I think the people put too much stock in the Superbowl, too. They thought they had that if things got too bad.

I agree with you. Shepherd Smith is doing a good job in a very difficult situation. How would his critics handle the job?

Sorry. That should have been the Superdome. (Slaps self). Now I am going to get slammed mercilessly by DU lurkers for being an "ignorant hillbilly". Their words. Not mine.

Didn't see the report but, frankly, I'm not offended as long as we didn't have to see the face. Death is part of this story and, like it or not, just as significant as the lowlifes shooting at police and stealing from stores. I think the media hasn't emphasized the dead enough.

Yes, I've previously heard that but I suspect questions will be asked re why that decision was made.

As I understand it, cost at the time was the overriding factor.

Nope, Shep does not make me sick.

He's doing a fine job reporting. There are bodies all over. Why should we not see the effects of this disaster.

One of the reporters on msnbc earlier today showed a body floating in the water, caught against a fence.

This is a terrible disaster -- why should we not be allowed to see what's going on?

Another reporter just now on msnbc showed a close-up of the elderly dead man in the wheelchair, even showing his face. (Also showed the note in his hands for his family.)

What Shep showed was from quite a distance.

Those who are so eager to kill the messenger are left with empty envelopes. IOW, the media at the scene deserves kudos for hanging in there under horrific conditions.

Perhaps it will be determined to have been a pennies wise and pounds (and lives) foolish decision. What a sad day for us all.

if they aired soldiers caskets they'd say Bush was using it to his advantage to show how patriotic we should all be. Liberals arent genuine when it comes to anything Bush does.

Grandstanding ? Explain how showing a dead guy on a bridge is grandstanding.

Shep and Geraldo are both loosing it...
Did anyone see them crying on O'Reilly factor last night. O'Reilly could not get a word in to give some perspective to the situation.
Fox should send some professionals to report on New Orleans.
Shep and Geraldo need some sleep and do a little reading-
Psalms 94:1-23

They should have got out of there, now they blame the government.

You are right on.
If they wouldn't have spent all their wefare checks on drugs and booze, they could have gotten a grayhound out before the storm.

They should be blaming the government for giving them welfare, keeping them endlessly from getting a job. With a job and a car they could have driven themselves out of harm's way.

"Why do we demand sanitized news ?"

If Bill Clinton was still in office, we'd be screaming for the media to stop covering up the body count.

I think that some here want to downplay the tragedy because they're afraid that it will reflect badly on W due to his response. That's silly, because there are far better politicians to blame this on, politicians who actually failed in their responsibility. But still, this has become a federal issue, and some people think that they're protecting the President.
