Thank you for redoing the list...did you notice that PETA is not on this list? lol Exactly what is PETCO? anyone know?
I totally agree. They were warned many times to leave the area, not to leave the country, but to go to higher ground. Then to act like animals.I feel no pity for these people.
What about the people that have left and everything they have has been destroyed?
What about all of the children that have been affected?
You could also find a local church to donate to. Lots of churches have been destroyed.
If we can set up a fund for any freepers affected by this disaster, it sure would be great. I would love to help fellow freepers.
yea, that is an excellent idea. Why can we Freepers donate to some kind of Freeper fund that can help the victims?
PETCO is a chain of pet supply stores in the East (maybe other parts of the US too).
They're asking customers to round up their purchases to the next whole dollar, and the diff will be donated to the Humane Society for animal rescue and care in the disaster area.

Pet store chain
Sounds good....Jim?
For those who also want to help the displaced pets, the following organizations have mobile units with cages, veterinary supplies, animal food and volunteers on scene or en route:
ifaw.org
noahswish.org
spcahouston.org-taking in animals from NO shelters
nsalamerica.org
hsus.org
If any displaced Freepers and their family needs a place to stay in the DFW area, or knows of somebody that needs a place to stay and trusts that they well be respectful guests, Freep mail me and we'll take it from there.
any info is appreiciated
They are a chain of pet/petfood/pet supply stores.
Before anyone makes a generic donation to either the Red Cross or Salvation Army, may I please make a pitch for specifically earmarking your donations for their shelters in Central Louisiana where 10,000 "refugee" (as they call themselves) families are being housed on a long-term basis? Here are the addresses of the chapters nearest these shelters:
Salvation Army
620 Beauregard Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-0445
and
American Red Cross
Central Louisiana Chapter
1808 Jackson Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-6621
The families in these shelters are being absorbed into our communities. We have 1,000 new children in our local school system who don't have public school uniforms or classroom supplies to bring on their first day because, in Louisiana, parents are expected to provide these items at their own expense. When the first families fled the southern parishes for Alexandria, they thought they wouldn't be gone for more than a few days and left these vital items at home where they are now submerged under several feet of water. These refugees are now being joined by new busloads of evacuees from the New Orleans Superdome and Convention Center who are arriving with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
If you would like to ship supplies to help these kids adjust to a new life, here is a local public school collecting donations:
Rosenthal Montessori Elementary School
1951 Monroe Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-5791
On another note, the local hospital that caters to the poor and uninsured is serving so many extra meals that the kitchen doesn't have enough utensils and seasoning to go around. A request has been made for large slotted serving spoons and ladles:
Huey P. Long Medical Center
PO Box 5352
Pineville, LA 71361-5352
(318) 448-0811
Thanks for caring and for your support!
I will forward this to everyone I know and thank you for the info.
