I thought the same as you two. What hypocrites they are. Pushing junk food on the kids at the same time they're measuring BMI.

And what a funny quote:

Some schools have already opted to remove soda machines from school property, encouraging students to drink more water and low-fat milk

That should've been the first thing they did.

And what they consider fruit juice - 10% juice with corn syrup - should be removed, too, along with the UNnatural snacks. Not being offensive - I like the unhealthy stuff once in awhile, too - but if they're really concerned about the weight of students, they should remove the junk foods.

When my oldest was in preschool (for a whole two months), I would deliver him with a healthy snack. The teacher would ignore the snacks parents packed and give out the fake juice because it was easier for her. Then other parents were dropping off donuts for the kids to eat. I had many a battle with the school over food before I had to finally remove him.

Wonder what would happen if the student simply refused to be weighed or measured, on the grounds that it wasn't any of their business.

yet another reason to doubt BMI results. To do it accurately, you gotta get wet, and I doubt the schools will shell out the money to get it done right.

When I told my husband about this, he said if we got sent such a letter about our son he would say, "Now we'll cut our son down to three Big Mac's a day. It's none of your business!!"
