LAS CRUCES, N.M., Aug. 27 (AP) - The governors of New Mexico and its southern neighbor, the Mexican state Chihuahua, agreed Friday to bulldoze or board up buildings in a semi-abandoned town just inside Mexico that is a haven for would-be immigrants and smugglers.
Gov. Bill Richardson and Gov. José Reyes Baeza of Chihuahua also said they hoped to establish a police presence to end lawlessness in the border town, Las Chepas, which has been used as a staging ground for migrants and drug and human smugglers.
It was the governors' first meeting since Mr. Richardson, citing growing violence, declared a state of emergency in the New Mexico border region earlier this month.
Las Chepas is home to a dozen full-time residents. A Border Patrol agent, Rick Moody, said agents monitored the area with a tower-mounted camera and watched as a daily caravan of old school buses ferried people along a dusty washboard road into the town.

Richardson gets away with it because he is (a) a Dimwit and (b) hispanic.
Right and he wants to pretend like he is doing something about it. Fat chance.
Richardson is trying to land the Veep slot on the Dimwit ticket in '08. Two problems: (1) the Los Alamos spy fiasco while he was Sec of Energy, and (2) his attempts to get Monica Lewinsky a job while Amb. to the UN. Relatively clean for a Dimwit but both of these incidents won't play well in the general election.
...and c) is a Drama Queen. He wants to be sHrILLARY veep in '08...this is nothing more than a beauty contest. :P
Richardson was also on the board of directors of Peregrine Systems during part of the time period when it overreported earnings by something on the order of 250 million bucks. You'd think this might be a problem if he tried to run for national office, but it didn't stop him from being elected governor.
Was unaware of the Peregrine Systems issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It would be useful for FR to create a opp research database about Dimwit and RINO potential candidates for national, state, and local offices. This database would be very helpful to underfunded conservative candicates for the same offices.
Richardson is the only threat to Republicans. Of all the Dems, he is potentially damaging because he is a polished front man.
