New 9/11 Probe Could Spotlight Iraq Link

Congressional hearings coming this fall into revelations by the military intelligence group Able Danger could spotlight other evidence overlooked by the 9/11 Commission: including a March 2001 report suggesting that Osama bin Laden was working with Iraqi intelligence operatives in Germany at a time when Mohamed Atta and two other 9/11 hijack team leaders were living in Hamburg.

On March 16, 2001, the Paris-based newspaper Al Watan al Arabi reported: "Two Iraqis were arrested in Germany, charged with spying for Baghdad. The arrests came in the wake of reports that Iraq was reorganizing the external branches of its intelligence service and that it had drawn up a plan to strike at US interests around the world through a network of alliances with extremist fundamentalist parties."

Al Watan said that German intelligence was investigating "serious indications of cooperation between Iraq and bin Ladin.* The matter was considered so important that a special team of CIA and FBI agents was sent to Germany to interrogate the two Iraqi spies."

The pre-9/11 Al Watan report continued:

"German authorities were surprised by the arrest of the two Iraqi agents and the discovery of Iraqi intelligence activities in several German cities. German authorities, acting on CIA recommendations, had been focused on monitoring the activities of Islamic groups linked to bin Ladin."

The Weekly Standard, which covered the quotes this week based on a report by Captain's Quarter's blogger Ed Morrissey," noted:

"Despite this contemporaneous report about the nature of the German arrests and the involvement of American counterintelligence officials in the investigation, not a word of the affair appears in the 9/11 Commission's final report."

This fall's hearings will undoubtedly begin with questions about why both the 9/11 Commission and the Clinton administration dismissed Able Danger's stunning identification of Mohamed Atta inside the U.S.

But any congressional investigation that doesn't explore other possible bombshells that were overlooked - including indications of possible Iraqi involvement in the 9/11 attacks - will leave even more important questions unanswered.

The 9/11 Commission possibly engaged in the most treasonous cover-up in history.

Democrats can not afford to have an Al Qaeda/Iraq or a 9/11-Iraq link verified. Their entire objection to the war is based on that. Ever notice how belligerent they get when the slightest suggestion about Iraq and 9/11 or Al Qaeda is mentioned? This would completely blow them out of the water.

Can't have the truth out now! The American people don't deserve the truth!

The Jersey Girls decided that the Dr. Rice and everyone in the Bush administration had advance knowledge and that's all they need to know.

The truth would burst their toxic bubble wouldn't it.

Oh no, this would never see the light of day in the "media." They can't have the American people thinking Pres. Bush and his administration were right all along.

Though why the president and his people don't talk more about this evidence is surprising to me.

If the media in this country was truly for truth and fact and not for the dem party, it would have already been over for them when this story about Able Danger first broke. I just don't feel the new media is powerful enough yet that this thing as a whole will get little notice by the masses. Look at the Sandy Burgler thing and how most common folks don't know a thing about it. We are years away from getting the truth to the country as a whole. That is sad.

why is Bush compelled to shelter the clinton administration. what does slicky have on dubya? I mean sandy burglar should be in GITMO or an undisclosed federal facility. If CLinton had this kind of information on Bush I's administration he wouldnt hesitate to prosecute. btw no one has answered me about how sandy burglar walked out with papers, that would mean some one saw him do it why didnt they say, excuse me mr burglar put the papers back and stay here while the police escorts you to jail.

Oligarchy I guess.

More overlooked evidence.

The 9/11 Commission Report should be moved to the fiction section of the bookstores.

I just heard a strange sound coming from the direction of Chappaqua.

Funny thing... it sounded exactly like what Tommy DeVito(Joe Pesci) uttered in ”Goodfella's"... just before he got capped.

So what? Others of the 19 were known to INS, FBI etc. and nothing was done. Wouldn't have mattered if Able Danger really knew about Atta (uncertain), and the FBI took the information.

We've witnessed Washington covering up garbage for decades and we've rolled right along letting them continue business as usual. We all knew about the technology for campaign $ deal, got upset about it and then moved on to the impeachment. Well, that one bit us in the ass, but good. I hate to say it but the ruling class is going to come out of this with maybe a black eye and nothing more. The good of our country means absolutely nothing to these people. Bin Laden, wicked and evil as he is, saw this and acted on that knowledge. We here at FR are aware of this, but what about John Q Citizen? When you try to explain how all this came about his eyes glaze over. The MSM will not push it because they're in bed with the Dems. and they are beyond all hope. The Reps. won't push it as far as they should because they're in full CYA mode. What recourse do we really have?

Apparently, the term "overlooked" is a euphemism for "covered up."

Because the Dems are afraid to touch Iraq I believe that no effort was made to investigate what the CIA knew about terrorist training camps in Iraq, especially the Zajo terrorist training camp in northern Iraq which was reported as early as 1996 to have had direct ties to Al Qaeda and the predecessor to Ansar al Islam. It was run by Islamist Kurds, and their European contact was with Barakat Yarkas, a man who was known to German investigators long before 9/11, and a person who had intimate contact with the Al Qaeda cell in Hamburg. Another person involved with the camp was Najmuddin Farah Ahmad, AKA Krekar, who resided in Norway and was another Al Qaeda operative.

9/11 panel was set up with a gentlemen's agreement not to screw each other, because the GOP was not sure if GWB administration did not screw up any intel and the Dems knew Clinton administration made mistakes, but they were not sure how bad the mistakes were. In essence they agreed to go easy on each other. I think that is why Berger got a pass, but Clark's book and several political shenanigans by the Demsn may have undone the gentlemen's agreement. I think the second time 9/11 is looked into by Congress, the GOP should go for the Democrat jugular.
