That picture of the beast almost made me lose the supper I just ate.If she thinks Vietnam turned out OK after we left I wonder what she considers a disaster? That statement by itself is evidence enough that she's not just another ugly face, she's stupid too.

[In an opinion article on Wednesday in The Washington Post, former Sen. Gary Hart, D-Col., wrote that...]

Who..? What?... Gary Hart?!!

Do the "progressive" Democrats today think that they're being wise by reanimating the ideas that deservedly died out in the 1980's?

But one would hope that Helen Hunt is right when she says that "Not all Democrats are so clueless".

"Did the opposition party give former President Bill Clinton any slack while he was in office?"

No.

"BTW, is she still allowed in WH press briefings?"

Yes, but at the back of the room. Quite a comedown for someone who used to sit on BJClinton's lap during press briefings.

From Christopher Hitchens, the accomplishments of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, why they were necessary, and why continuing presence in the region may be necessary for years:

(1) The overthrow of Talibanism and Baathism, and the exposure of many highly suggestive links between the two elements of this Hitler-Stalin pact. Abu Musab al Zarqawi, who moved from Afghanistan to Iraq before the coalition intervention, has even gone to the trouble of naming his organization al Qaeda in Mesopotamia.

(2) The subsequent capitulation of Qaddafi's Libya in point of weapons of mass destruction--a capitulation that was offered not to Kofi Annan or the E.U. but to Blair and Bush.

(3) The consequent unmasking of the A.Q. Khan network for the illicit transfer of nuclear technology to Libya, Iran, and North Korea.

(4) The agreement by the United Nations that its own reform is necessary and overdue, and the unmasking of a quasi-criminal network within its elite.

(5) The craven admission by President Chirac and Chancellor Schröder, when confronted with irrefutable evidence of cheating and concealment, respecting solemn treaties, on the part of Iran, that not even this will alter their commitment to neutralism. (One had already suspected as much in the Iraqi case.)

(6) The ability to certify Iraq as actually disarmed, rather than accept the word of a psychopathic autocrat.

(7) The immense gains made by the largest stateless minority in the region--the Kurds--and the spread of this example to other states.

(8) The related encouragement of democratic and civil society movements in Egypt, Syria, and most notably Lebanon, which has regained a version of its autonomy.

(9) The violent and ignominious death of thousands of bin Ladenist infiltrators into Iraq and Afghanistan, and the real prospect of greatly enlarging this number.

(10) The training and hardening of many thousands of American servicemen and women in a battle against the forces of nihilism and absolutism, which training and hardening will surely be of great use in future combat.

Helen Thomas is an isolationist anti-American, whose bowels quake with revulsion when American might is used to promote democratic republicanism, market capitalism, or any other strategy that liberates individuals from the onerous burdens of social dictatorships. Hers is a dying philosophy, but she is still influential, but her sympathy for the nation's enemies may do more to harm her allies than she realizes. If Democrats heed her, one election cycle may benefit lib Dems to the detriment of the nation. Thereafter, the evidence of liberal connivance with the enemies if liberty will be undeniable and we may rid ourselves of their haughty cruelty at the ballot box for at least a generation.

Yes and no. By not taking a stand, and letting the MSM do it, people are associating their stance as the same as Cindy's cult down in Crawford. So speak out or not vocally, the Dems are being associated in the public's mind with the anti-war loons in Texas and they are allowing it to occur. They are taking a stand by not opposing these groups speaking "in their name". And THAT is going to continue to hurt them.

To: I still care

Nor is it healthy for the Democratic party in general. The party of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and JFK have surrendered to the vapid non-sequiturs of Michael Moore and Howard Dean. Sad, really, for the national debate to framed in such torpor.

Did the opposition party give former President Bill Clinton any slack while he was in office?

No. Unless you want to count the fact that they didn't vote to remove him from office.

That being said, are you admitting that you are part of the opposition party, Helen?

"the fact is that Vietnam survived and thrived after we departed"

This statement alone shows why liberals are insane.

"the fact is that Vietnam survived and thrived after we departed"

I know personally know about two dozen Vietnamese that would argue vehemently with that assertion.

This woman has absolutely no sense of history; her opinion is worthless.

Christopher Hitchens makes the case The Administration should be making. Helen Thomas' appalling rubbish can only lead one to conclude that she favors the brutal regime of Saddamm and his bloodthirsty progeny over the hopes of the Iraqi people.

The article is too long to post here but it is vintage Hitch.
