"just heard Gov. Blanco on Fox. She sounds a little panicky and is telling everyone to leave. I think the pre-hurricane fed. emergency declaration might have gotten her attention, finally."
Can you just hear the conversation behind the scene between the feds and Governor Blanco. Like....If you don't act now you will face charges for the resulting deaths.

Joe Bastardi just said on Fox they think this is going to 150-160mph!

but that governor of Louisiana just seems like a complete idiot. That's the problem with a liberal loon...adults/realist have to take over like Bush when he became President...I was thrilled we finally had an adult running this country....now once again Bush has to take charge.

...i am seeing the first signs of "outflow interference" on the NW and W outer edges..you can how the clouds are stationary rather then fanning out south of the central LA coast ...Is that good or bad?
BTW, I checked out the Eastern US Weather Forum you mentioned. Fascinating.

It is odd that they did not order the shutdown of businesses at noon today except those selling goods needed to evacuate. That would have suggested the party was over. Meanwhile a fair number of folks are moving along on Bourbon street, and the bars are
open.

This is a vicious and deadly event .. awful and so sad to say, but I think history will be made. Prayers for those poor folks there. I wonder how far you have to go inland from NO before you leave the bays, bayous and swamps behind and are on more solid and higher ground...

Meanwhile a fair number of folks are moving along on Bourbon street, and the bars are open. It's time for a big police presence, closing of the bars and rounding people up for the early AM busride out of town tomorrow. All roads head out and only out. That's what needs to happen.

I hope the feds have considered the possibility that Al Queda might try to throw a wrench into this situation. It seems to me a couple of well placed car bombs could trap over a million folks.

A whole bunch of people at an apartment complex on the Mississippi Gulf Coast were having a grand ole time at a hurricane party for Camille in August 1969. They're all dead.
