Sleeping with the enemy
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 08/21/05 | Robert Novak

Posted on 08/21/2005 3:35:35 AM PDT by armymarinedad

At Cindy Sheehan's side since Aug. 6 when she began her anti-war protest outside President Bush's Texas ranch have been three groups that openly support the Iraqi insurgency against U.S. troops: Code Pink-Women For Peace, United for Peace & Justice, and Veterans For Peace.

Those organizations were represented at a mock ''war crimes'' trial in Istanbul....

It's about time someone in the MSM started reporting who these people are and what they really stand for. Now we need our government to start having trials for sedition and treason.

Now we need our government to start having trials for sedition and treason.

In the modern world, treason has been essentially re-defined to be just another form of freedom of expression.

I have actually talked to liberals who are opposed to this war that think Americans who endorse this tribunal's findings have crossed the free speech line and are traitors. It's time to start exposing these people for what they are and demand justice. They are killing American troops with their speech. If conservatives won't speak out and defend our military on the home front why should they risk their lives abroad?

Your comment is excellent, and spot on. Why should the soldiers risk their lives when they keep hearing the double speak of the liberals saying "We support the troops, but not the war". Reminds of the Rudyard Kipling poem "Tommy", about a British soldier in uniform who was refused a drink in a pub just for being a soldier.

"For it's 'Tommy this', and 'Tommy that', and 'Throw him out, the brute';

But it's Tommy 'e's our 'ero when the guns begin to shoot"

Nothing has been proven. Sheehan is consorting with groups who actively oppose the US and our military. And you really have to look at your friends objectively and ask yourself what their ultimate objective is.

Great reply. What do you mean nothing has been proven? It has been over two years and the Bush Administrations justifications for the invasion of Iraq have steadily fallen and been spun into a new ones that fall apart just as quickly.

With regard to agendas, if you read my post I support our military and demand better leadership for them and accountability for those who endangered them. I greatly appreciate the commitment that all of our soldiers have made to protect our nation throughout my lifetime. I appreciate their willingness to sacrifice their lives for our national security. It is when the threat to national security is manufactured to invoke these sacrifices, and the actions actually threaten national security that I feel compelled to speak up.

Your words have little substance. I know you and your kind consider us the enemy. Be assured we have many ways to deal with you, our enemy and traitor (your word). One way is a life sentence with a Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker on your Volvo. Another is to force you to become educated in the history and methods of warfare, a subject in which you are woefully ignorant. As a last resort, we could parachute you into Mosul so your hero terrorists can scalp you at the neckline. They won't notice your Birkenstocks and you won't have time to show your ALCU card.

If it were up to you and your kind we would be the biggest pussies in the world, and we'd be speaking German or Russian or Chinese.

There was no connection between Al Qaida and the Iraqi government.

There was an obvious connection then, and an obvious connection now that they are indeed in Iraq.

Aside from Iraqi funding of Palestinian terrorism, you agree with Sheehan it is all the fault of the Jews, just like Saddam and Al Queerda... go to hell...

I keep wondering if these anti-war, anti-Bush organizations that are supporting Cindy have received sizeable contributions from her? Money that would have came from her son’s insurance payment.

Seems likely they would prey on her vulnerability and "court" her and others who have lost loved ones in the war in order to get their hands on easy money. By feigning a concern for her son they could actually only be interested in the donation she would be convinced to likely give them. Would be quite a scam, wouldn’t it?

Imagine the amount of the servicemember's insurance funds that could be accessed this way. Government funds paid to families being used to promote the objectives of these groups would be quite a coup. I think some investigation would prove interesting.

Oppose the war if you want to, but don't come on this message board and repeat the damnable lie that there was no Connection between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein had an operational relationship from the early 1990s to 2003 that involved training in explosives and weapons of mass destruction, logistical support for terrorist attacks, al Qaeda training camps and safe haven in Iraq, and Iraqi financial support for al Qaeda.

The proof of multiple connections between Hussein's government and al Qaeda runs to tens of thousands of pages of publicly-available (not secret) documents, detailing names, places, times and dates of these contacts. If you are too biased to go and look for these for yourself, at least have the decency to stop spreading a lie in a time of war. Our soldiers are getting killed in part because of left-wing idiots like Cindy Sheehan, and the treasonous- yes - treasonous activities of others.

Finally, the fight against Islamic terror will survive the efforts of those on the left and right who strain to deny reality because it interferes with their preferred view of the world. The Left wants us to lose because they hate Western civilization. The Buchananite Right wants us to lose, as far as I can tell, because they hate the Jews as much as Bin Laden does. As for "international credibility", who gives a crap? Most of the world is controlled by thugs, fools and cowards - as it has always been. America stands for Liberty, whether the "International Community" wants it or not (hint: they don't).

Let me get this straight...
Because no WMDs were found we were lied to? You honestly believe that no war is peace? There is no connection with Iraq and al-queda? Not only are things a disaster in Iraq but also Afghanistan? Our soldiers are threatened more by Bush than the terrorists cutting the heads off of innocents and with their suicide bombers.
Unfricken believable.
After months and months of UN resolutions before the war, warning saddam about the US coming, you are really surprised they haven't found the WMD??? Do you follow any other news than the pinko talking points? Israeli intelligence showed the caravans hauling massive "stuff" into Syria during the run up. A major chemical bomb attack was thwarted in Jordan from one such weapon from guess where...Syria. Are you so naive to believe a drug dealer would hold on to his stash when he knows the feds are coming. What a convenient line of thought when you hate Bush.
No connection between Iraq and Zarquawi, huh? Do your homework!
For your information, more people have been killed and murdered during so called "peace" because of tyranny, communism and nazism than all the wars put together.
Our soldiers under the command of Tommy Franks DROVE the terrorists out of Afghanistan and into Iraq to wage this war on terror. He/they knew what they were doing. Open free elections in both countries is hardly a failure. How long did it take THIS country to function independently after declaring it was so???
And the most insane of all is that Bush is responsible for the deaths and the chaos. Oh my God. You people make me sick!!!

An Open Letter to FR from Iraq
91b ^ | August 18, 2005 | 91b

Posted on 08/17/2005 11:39:47 PM PDT by 91B

I am writing this in response to all the attention that Cindy Sheehan and her protests are getting. I am a deployed soldier with 2nd Squadron, 278th RCT at FOB Bernstein near Tuz Khurmatu, Iraq.

This is my second deployment. The first was from April 2003 to April 2004 and it was spent mostly in Qatar, but I also spent some time at Camp Cedar II just outside An Nasiriyah, Iraq. I volunteered to return with the 278th and I do not regret my decision at all.

Obviously, I believe in and support the war for a variety of reasons. I think that the invasion and liberation of Iraq demonstrated to those regimes that might be inclined to support terrorism that we were serious about our commitment to taking the fight to our enemies. I also believe that a democratic Iraq will serve as a positive influence over the rest of the region. At the same time, having a force in Iraq allows to us put direct pressure on Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia-all supporters of terrorism in one way or another-and draws prospective jihadis into this country where they can be dealt with militarily.

That is why I am so angry about Ms. Sheehan's media circus. I do not question her grief and anger over the death of her son and I do not begrudge her the right to protest. However, I do not see where her actions serve any useful purpose other than to embolden our enemies and weaken the resolve that is necessary to carry forward the fight to a victorious conclusion.

I admit that there are some soldiers here who have mixed feelings about the war and whether or not we are successful. They wonder how we will be able to define victory and what American soldiers are being sacrificed for. I try to answer that we should not expect the defeat of tyranny and fanaticism to be easy. That victory may not come for years and that we may not know it for years after that. I try to point out that we did not defeat Communist totalitarianism except after a long struggle, and that we were not able to carry the fight directly to its' most important strongholds even then. I also reply that those nations that we have helped to become democratic-South Korea, Japan, Germany-did not become so overnight.

I know that modern Americans are perhaps impatient and that they are perhaps not willing to bear sacrifice for long without some clear indication of success. However, I do not hear any alternative strategy put forth other than capitulation and that is not acceptable. Freepers, and other conservatives, will have to carry forward an important part of the fight. You will have to stand resolute in the face of the attempted emotional manipulation by the media of the Cindy Sheehan's of the world.

This will be difficult as the opposition will claim the high ground, but you must constantly remind the public of the price of defeat. A world in which our enemies can prey on our weakness will never be safe from bombings, hijackings or decapitation. The publicity battle is an important front in this struggle and Freepers have an important role to play.

If it is your contention that Iraq under Saddam was not a supporter of terrorism and in fact not a proponent and also never had or utilized WMD then perhaps you might be more comfortable posting over at Moron.org or DUH!

Maybe even you might consider setting up camp outside Crawford Texas with the other retards who use the talking points of the subversive radical left.

Taking out Iraq was a brilliant stroke of genius by this administration. Libya might have been next, but now likely Syria, and then of course the leadership pukes in Iran will be our next target.

Get your head out of your ass. Go review the president's speech from 2001 after 9-11!

Here is a guide....

We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

What about U.N. Resolution 1440 don't you understand? If Saddam was to have disposed of the WMDs, then he was to have provided documentation. Where they are now is MOOT.
"This country is not worth dying for."
That is your right to say, Cindy. Your son fought to the death to protect that right. I hope you're happy. Slink away now and admit your irrelevance. We'll forget you like we "forgot" Jane Fonda. Non-apology apologies are regrettable, but Jane is still allowed to breathe our air.
"reconstruction of Iraq has been riddled with incompetence on the part of the Bush Administration." "...has been riddled with attacks by foreign mercenaries.
We have been more than PC when it comes to being tolerant of the prevailing "religion" practiced in the area. The fact that they blow up THEIR OWN MOSQUES and THEIR OWN CHILDREN can't be blamed on anyone but these terrorists.
Yes, layman, you're an uninformed idiot and dupe of the organizations listed above. Net effect on us and Iraquis: "Bring back the rape rooms. Start filling those mass graves again. And above all else, wash that pesky purple off your hands. After all, Cindy al-She'ehan said HER country is not worth fighting for...."
During my last meeting with Andropov, he said, wisely, "now all we have to do is to keep the Vietnam-era anti-Americanism alive." Andropov was a shrewd judge of human nature. He understood that in the end our original involvement would be forgotten, and our insinuations would take on a life of their own. He knew well that it was just the way human nature worked.

I don't know if it's me or not, but Cindy Sheehan certainly looks a lot like Tony Soprano's Mother.....and just as nuts to boot!

Don't go badmouthing Volvo!

Don't you realize that Volvo gives overseas US military personnel a large discount on any Volvo purchase?

I could have brought an Volvo S40 at a little under $20,000, thanks to Volvo's support of US troops. That's nearly $3,000 under invoice.

(Though, I didn't like the test drive. The S40 rear-view mirrors are much too small. That, and I wanted a hatchback.)
