If they investigate a company who is not paying state tax most likely that company is not paying the federal tax.
That isn't the same as investigating federal taxes for the federal government though is it.

Get rid of the un-American progressive income tax and the IRS. The flat tax leaves the coercive jack-booted IRS in place. It should have NO place in a free country. Our founders would weep if they knew how we have let the federal government, though its armed agents, run roughshod over our right to be considered innocent until proven guilty...something the IRS is mysteriously exempt from. Shame on us sheeple.

Even though tax accountants, etc. make a killing of the existing tax code, you are looking at a significant change in the economy due to these professionals having to look for new jobs and careers...The job market would be flooded with people looking for new jobs...We may not have any sympathy for accountants, but they are professionals and a significant portion of the economy.

Keep in mind that when these intelligent people find work elsewhere, they will actually be doing something productive, and contributing to the economy.

post #37: Think about all those illegals who don't pay taxes now. They will under the Fair Tax.

post #43:No taxes to embed into prices. Prices should drop 20-25%. Pay the 23% at the cash register and it's the same price.

Aren't the illegals buying things and paying the embedded taxes under the current system? And aren't you saying the embedded taxes are the same as the NRST will be? So how will the illegals pay more under NRST?

Illegals will be paying the same marginal rate as everyone else, but a higher effective rate because without the FCA ("prebate"), their effective rate equals their marginal rate. Everyone else has a lower effective rate because their total tax burden is taxes paid - FCA.

They will not be receiving the prebate because they don't have a social security number.

The incentive to make sure companies are paying their taxes is the .25% each state receives on the taxes collected. That's $25000 on every 1 million of taxes collected.

And those who claim that we won't without the simultanious repeal of the 16th amendment are either lying to us or lying to themselves.

I didn't say anything about the prebates. The contention of the NRST proponents is that prices at the retail level will be on average the same as they are now. The prebates are the icing on the cake. Are you saying that the prices at the retail level won't drop, as you stated in #43?

Your goods will already have a tax built into the price, because the company had to pay the tax for their "materials" i.e. steel, paper, ink or whatever...

You really should read the book and the legislation itself.

Sorry you are just plain misinformed on this one.

Business to business purchase are not taxed under the FairTax legislation. It is a pure RETAIL sales tax. All federal business/corporate income and payroll (SS/Medicare) taxes are repealed by the bill, and only a single stage, single rate RETAIL sales tax is implemented to be collected at point of sale and remitted to the local state sales tax administators in parallel with state sales taxes.

Another thing - it will be far easier for the Treasury Dept. to audit 50 states, if necessary, than the IRS auditing millions of tax returns. All the treasury department has to do is look at the sales tax revenue posted for each state budget to know if the state is forwarding the correct tax.

A Taxreform bump for you all.

If you would like to be added to this ping list let me know.

John Linder in the House(HR25) & Saxby Chambliss Senate(S25) offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright and replace them with with a national retail sales tax administered by the states.

H.R.25,S.25
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.

Refer for additional information:

If a pencil today costs $1.00 and we remove the embedded taxes it should cost $ .75 - .80. Then we tax at .23 or .30 and the cost of the pencil is essentially $1.00.

Are you posting from some weird parallel universe? You actually believe you are 'winning'. Your proposal is the poor step child of the proposals in front of the tax committee. Even if by some miracle they do recommend a sales tax, it then has to get through Congress, where it has no chance.

There is a companion bill. The 16th amendment repeal can't be in the same bill.
