NEW LONDON, Conn. A woman is suing the town whose police divers saved her from drowning. Barbara Connors is suing the town of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, saying she was rescued too late to prevent serious brain damage.
The Massachusetts woman was in her son-in-law's sport utility vehicle when it jumped a curb, went through a chain-link fence and plunged into the Connecticut River.
Connors was unconscious and in cardiac arrest when divers pulled her from the water.
The son-in-law escaped the sinking vehicle and was picked up by the crew of a passing boat. Connors is also suing him.
Among other things, the suit claims the town failed to provide appropriate guardrails and equipment needed by police divers.
It says the 75-year-old woman has brain damage and must be cared for in a nursing home for the rest of her life.

...she was rescued too late to prevent serious brain damage. Brain damage... that's the problem.
Throw her worthless assets back in.

I hate yuppies. You move to the country to get away from the city and then expect all the services that the city provides, along with the huge tax burden that goes along with it.

son-in-law's sport utility vehicle when it jumped a curb Another crazy, runaway SUV tragedy. Surprised its maker isn't being sued, seeing as she's suing everyone else.

Nope. It's the SUV's fault. It's amazing what these gas guzzlers that the dims want banned can do. There was likely brain damage on the driver's behalf before the accident.

While not quite the same, it's very much like the parents of one of the children from Camden, NJ who died in the trunk of a car. They're suing the police for not finding the missing children alive.
Police/Fire/EMT rescue squads are not like Dominoes, there is no rule that says your rescue will be done in 30 minutes or you get $30 million.

The obvious solution to the sue-happy culture is staring us in the face:
In the wake of the NCAA rulings, declare that to "Sue" is not P-C, and offensive to "Native Americans". This may put a few lawyers out of work, but them's the brakes.

I don't know whether it's true for her in particular, but if she had an insurance policy which had to pay out for this, the insurance company may require her to sue.

A woman is suing the town whose police divers saved her from drowning. Barbara Connors is suing the town of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, saying she was rescued too late to prevent serious brain damage.
Am I the only one who smells the sleazy, John Edwards-type, ambulance-chasing lawyers who put her family up to this? How long before the Breck Girl is at the trial, channeling the "brain-damaged" woman's thoughts to the jury?

The woman is 75 years old AND brain damaged? I seriously doubt this lawsuit is her idea.Ding, ding, ding! She's also badly enough off that she has to be in a nursing home for the rest of her life.
Think about how well this would work out. The "mother" sues the son-in-law and the county. She's in ill health, and will presumeably not last all that long. The daughter and son-in-law will then inherit the half of the winnings (including those from his own insurance company) that the lawyer doesn't take. What a deal!
I suspect the insurance company will not settle on this one.

How ironic would it be if, as part of the lawsuit settlement, her family gets an eminent domain ruling, giving her the land where City Hall sits?

The Incredibles -- for real!
For those who missed it, the premise of the movie is that folks rescued by superheros start suing the government because of injuries they suffered during the rescues (or, because they never wanted to be rescued in the first place), forcing the "supers" underground in a government-sponsored relocation program.
