"The Patriot Act makes it a criminal act to sell real estate to undocumented buyers"
as well it should but

local real estate people say it is not, and has never been illegal to sell to undocumented aliens.

The house values are inflated and everyone is happy with their commissions, and increased taxes.

I think this is a desperate attempt to keep the artificially inflated real estate market going.

May all these traitorous crooks get what they deserve.

Dump your bank - join a credit union where members have to be a LEGAL resident in that area.

ITINs are a nine-digit tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who don't have, and aren't eligible to obtain, a social security number. Since the IRS doesn't require legal residency to obtain an ITIN, many illegal immigrants use this form of identification to pay U.S. taxes and buy homes.

Sure they do.

The nice 2-story brick house across the street from me went on sale this past friday. I bet they're asking $120-140K. The yard sign is totally targeting hispanics. It has "hablamos Espanol" and the name of the realty company is something like "Tu Casa Realty". I kinda laughed when I saw the sign and thought that there could be no way a bank would lend that much to an illegal but after reading this article I don't know.

June 2005
Banks are Quietly Wooing Undocumented Immigrants

Many illegal aliens are hard-working, tax-paying U.S. citizen wannabes-and banks are banking on their desire to be homeowners, too. And why not? There's no law against it.

By Steve Bergsman
As Washington signals a more lenient immigration policy toward the nation's eight million to 11 million undocumented aliens, U.S. banks like Fifth Third, North Shore Bank and Second Federal Savings & Loan, are quietly courting this group for home mortgages.

"Banks are not an arm of the immigration department," says Kevin Mukri, a spokesperson for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the primary bank regulator. "As long as those getting mortgages meet the requirements of being authorized bank customers, including proper ID, it would be discriminatory not to service them."

There is no law against banks issuing mortgages to illegal immigrants, nor against their owning property in the U.S.

In November, Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bancorp introduced an ITIN mortgage in seven markets, drawing twice the number of expected candidates. Says Bill Schumer, vp of product development, "This is a great outlet to help Hispanics establish roots here." Other financial institutions offering the mortgages include Banco Popular in Houston; Self-Help Credit Union in Durham, NC; First Bank of the Americas in Chicago; Texas Bank in Fort Worth, TX; and Mitchell Bank of Milwaukee. "But skeptics anti-immigrants worry about the message these home loans send to illegal immigrants: break our laws and we'll reward you with a home. "

This is a matter between the lending institutions and their stockholders. It's no one else's business as long as they are complying with all applicable laws.

People who can't hold down any job criticize employers for hiring immigrants, now the people who can't get anyone to give them a mortgage complain about banks giving immigrants mortgages.

I'm not anti-immigrant at all. I'm against an open border that anyone(including al Qaeda) could cross.

I moved here LEGALLY from the USSR and became a US citizen. It took me almost 10 years after becoming a citizen for the banks to even consider giving me a small mortgage for my first house.

Unfortunately, there are many immigrants(especially of my nationality) that take loans and maxed credit cards and run away to their country. Illegals would be more inclined to do this so I don't understand how banks could give them loans.

Must be nice - I'm trying to get a home improvement loan so I can put a full roof (instead of a flattop) and a new heating and air system on the house, and I'm having to jump through every hoop and circle on earth.

Someone could make a boatload of money suing the crap out of these banks who discriminate against U.S. citizens when they deny U.S. citizens their loans while handing it out by the fistful to these border jumpers who are breaking the law by their very presence in American. These trespasser essentially have no legal documentation of anything, EVEN DATE or PLACE OF BIRTH.

I know American people, like you, who have recently been required to deliver a mountain of documentation to get a home loan including documenting all their debts, income etc.

This is an outrage. America is dead. Keep your powder dry.

"I'm against an open border "

We haven't had open borders in almost 100 years. We spend billions of dollars securing our borders. Hundreds of people die each year trying to sneak across our borders because they are not open.

Open borders mean that anyone is allowed to cross anytime. We have open borders between our states. That means you can drive from New York to California without having to stop at checkpoints at each state border and show "papers". I'm surprised you don't appreciate the difference between open borders and well patroled borders since you are from Russia.

"Open borders mean that anyone is allowed to cross anytime.

The Border Patrol estimates it "detains" 15% of border crossers. OTMs get a free pass to enter the USA with a "notice to disappear." Mexicans get returned to the border to rest and try tomorrow. Two tries = a 96% success rate. Three tries = a 99% success rate.

IOW, open borders.

But you know that already.

Illegal Immigration issue aside, This is a bad idea and puts your money at risk. It would seem to me that the best way to fight this is to sell your stock and close accounts at any bank who does this.

A load of crap. We have millions of alien trespassers in this country and you know it. We're not buying your nonsense. Our borders are so open, Alexander the Great could march in with his armies, equipped only with swords and spears, and take over the country. The bureaucrats in Washington would be so busy trying to find their butts with both hands, there would never even be a shot fired, EXCEPT BY A FEDERAL AGENT AT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN TRYING TO KILL THE INVADERS.

All of our soldiers and Marines are busy overseas.

"The Border Patrol estimates it "detains" 15% of border crossers."

I visit the CBP website almost every day and have never seen any figure remotely like that. I just spent 15 minutes searching their site.

Do you have a link or can you direct me in a search that would lead to that statistic?

"Our borders are so open, Alexander the Great could march in with his armies, equipped only with swords and spears, and take over the country. "

The sad fact is that there are some people with such deep emotional issues that they would as quickly believe that as they do the other false myths promulgated by the Buchanan/Tancredo type professional fundraisers.
