Not looking for flames here, just curious to know why DoH was a 'positive' show.

The same reason all the gays on TV are today.
BTW it was Waylon Jennings not wee willie

There would be no "shine" if the government didn't tax the heck out of everything under the sun and make it illegal for anyone to bypass paying their friggn taxes.

My brother was arrested for "moon shinning" in 1970.
You know what he was charged with? Tax evasion

I guess there must have been two different Dukes series. There was the one we watched, and there must have been another Bizarro World version that Elfman watched. How else could he have missed so much?

Rs can call Rs, Rs just like Ns can call Ns, Ns.
But no one else can cross that line.

My great-something-grandfather died in the Civil War. He was a share cropper and picked cotton right beside the slaves and owned not one. He still fought on the Confederate side because he did not believe in the Federal government owning Georgia, not because he didn't want to give up his non-existent slaves. That is straight from my great great aunt (who is pushing 100) and her grandmother told her many times why her grandfather went to die in the 'war'.

People who make the Confederacy and/flag out to JUST be about slavery are as ignorant as they profess redneck's to be.

And my husband still makes 'home brew', only he doesn't sell it, he just enjoys it. People make fun of what they don't understand. Funny, if someone made fun of the thugs and gangsta's of the northern and western US cities they'd be mocked for not being 'sensitive' to their plight. Ugh, articles like this make me sick.

At least the Dukes of Hazzard didn't portray the southerners as Jethro Bodean. While I've known a few Cooters in my life, hell, related to a few being upteenth generation Georgian, not all hate black people.

The defense rests!

That's where the name "revenuers" came from. The southern states pretty much refused to prosecute folks for what they saw as making a living and feeding their families, so the feds stepped in to teach 'em a lesson.

Only two things in the world you can always count on........death and taxes!

Take a look of my idea of mowing the lawn on my home page.........LOL

While I'm not a southerner, was born in Kansas, and I live in North Idaho, we still carry many of the same values.

>>>I thought the Dukes were from Hazard Kentucky. Has the locale been changed in the movie?>>>

I think it's Hazzard COUNTY, Georgia (that doesn't exist to my knowledge) which to a kid might sound like Kentucky in memory or how we tend to bang words in to fit what we know. ie: my four year old's bathing 'soup'.

You might want to read these....

Opening paragraph, Mississippi Declaration of Secession:

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun."

Opening paragraph, Georgia Declaration of Secession:

"The people of Georgia having dissolved their political connection with the Government of the United States of America, present to their confederates and the world the causes which have led to the separation. For the last ten years we have had numerous and serious causes of complaint against our non-slave-holding confederate States with reference to the subject of African slavery."

From the Texas Declaration of Secession:

"Texas abandoned her separate national existence and consented to become one of the Confederated Union...She was received into the confederacy...as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery-- the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits-- a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time.

In all the non-slave-holding States...the people have formed themselves into a great sectional party...based upon an unnatural feeling of hostility to these Southern States and their beneficent and patriarchal system of African slavery, proclaiming the debasing doctrine of equality of all men, irrespective of race or color-- a doctrine at war with nature, in opposition to the experience of mankind, and in violation of the plainest revelations of Divine Law. They demand the abolition of negro slavery throughout the confederacy, the recognition of political equality between the white and negro races, and avow their determination to press on their crusade against us, so long as a negro slave remains in these States

...all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations..."

From the South Carolina Declaration of Secession:

"We affirm that these ends for which this Government was instituted have been defeated, and the Government itself has been made destructive of them by the action of the non-slaveholding States. Those States have assume the right of deciding upon the propriety of our domestic institutions; and have denied the rights of property established in fifteen of the States and recognized by the Constitution; they have denounced as sinful the institution of slavery; they have permitted open establishment among them of societies, whose avowed object is to disturb the peace and to eloign the property of the citizens of other States. They have encouraged and assisted thousands of our slaves to leave their homes; and those who remain, have been incited by emissaries, books and pictures to servile insurrection."

Okay 'mr' Doug "ELF-man"

First of all Trixie wasn't his SISTER you little fairy, oops "ELF man", Trixie was his girlfriend.

Sheesh being a TV Critic, I'd think you'd have at least gone to the Official Speed Racer Website before penning this garbage.

Oops, I'm sorry Dougie. I see you work for the Chicago SLUM-Times, your ignorance of Television - which is your JOB, is therefor excused.

Well, yeah. Duh.

I keep waiting for someoen to post a side-by-side image comparing the General Lee with its Confederate flag on top, with the General Rommel with a swastika on top. "But, but it's our *heritage*!"

ever notice how some people want to have it both ways?

there are those on the left who want to claim the civil war was not about freeing slaves... that the slavery incident was incident in the battle to hold the union together.

and then they try and tell us that the confederate flag is not a symbol of southern heritage, but rather a symbol of racism and oppression.

well, you can't have it both ways... if the confederate flag truly represents racism, oppression, and an era of slavery, then the civil war was what ended that era of oppression and slavery.

"The R word should be as unacceptable as the N word. I don't like either one of them"

Oh, give me a break. The liberals have already neutered the language so badly that nothing means anything anymore. It's pretty sorry when conservatives start jumping on the PC bandwagon. Personally, neither word bothers me. I think people have become too d*mn touchy. What's next? Having the govenrnment issue us a list of approved vocabulary each year? I'd a whole lot rather a person speak his mind so that I know right where he's coming from than to have guess his mind by wading through all that meaningless verbal mush.

It always seemed to me to glorify criminal behavior. Reckless driving, evading the police, using arrows to blow things up.

Redneck culture. Just like the title said.

That's funny because I'm about 1/2 Italian and was slammed for using the D-word:

The war was fought because the south would sell the north goods and then the north would turn around and sell the goods to foreign countries and did not give the south a fair share of the profits if none at all.

Huh?

The "General Lee" is a pervasive cultural symbol. I was in Lucca Italy last May and there is a store on the main shopping street called the "General Lee" with a picture of a car.

We had our picture made in front of it!
