"I learned that in Seattle the racism was much deeper and ranged over quite a few more ethnicities than I was used to."

Thats just what you were TAUGHT.
It doesn't mean its TRUE.

Sorry for the typos. I was eating oatmeal and defending the Dukes at the same time.

He just has that whiney tone that universally calls for a wedgie.

Or is the result of one.

Uncle Jesse so Jesse could pay the mortgage on his Georgia farm."

I thought the Dukes were from Hazard Kentucky. Has the locale been changed in the movie?

Watching them destroy all those beautiful '69 Chargers every week kind of made me depressed, they must have went through 500+ of those things making that series.

True. They were putting flyers on windshields all over California looking to buy more.

Great show if you like watching axels break and frames bend. Or Catherine Bach.

"That meant: Forget the Civil War? No way, Yankee scum."

What's wrong with that?

"Too bad liberals hate it, for has a lot of good things - patriotism, old fashioned family values, doing right by the folks, . . ."

Well, you pretty much explained why libs hate it in your own statement.

Evidently, you don't 'get' this thread either. For the record, I've only seen one or two episodes of Dukes myself.

Wouldn't be reality. When this show was tv, most everyone I knew was watching it including black people. I said I wasn't going to see it but I almost feel going just to spite this wet blanket.

"But the heritage of the flag is it was flown for the seceded South in its failed attempt to let white people keep their slaves. "

This guy does not even know history.

Get used to it. George Allen had a Confederate flag in one of his houses and the media is going to hang him by it.

Ben Jones ("Cooter") has a web site?

If memory serves, some years back Ben Jones ran for Congress (as a Dem, natch) and lost. No wonder Elfman quotes him.

These people perhaps have never been called "Jewboy" -- and I wasn't even a practicing Jew -- while hanging out with friends of non-white ancestry who bore much worse.

'Jewboy'? No, never been called that.

I've been called a *igger-lover by whites because my best friend in Jr. high was black, and a honky, cracker and whitey by blacks for no discernible reason other than my skin color.

But never ONCE did it occur to me to blame these instances on a piece of cloth or it's representation painted on top of a car in a television show.

Ben Jones was a congressman for one term. Then he got blown out in the general republican uprising in Georgia. I think he moved to Newt's district in 1994 and got slaughtered.

No, Hazzard is a fictional county in Georgia. In the first season the show was actually filmed in rural Georgia before they moved it to the Warner Bros. back lot. The characters reflect the values and small town life of the South. People from the big city are frowned on because they're full of it. The Left still regards exurb folks as hicks. If you live out in the space between the country and the city, they have no use for you and its exactly the kind of life the show depicts that's anathema to them.

(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)

I didn't know that, but you're right: if it's true, he's officially unelectable in 2008.

Unelectable over a Confederate flag? What's the world coming to? Imagine if we investigated every politician who bought a Confederate flag beach towel at Myrtle Beach.

This guy has no clue why the Civil War was fought or why the south seceded from the Union. The war was fought because the south would sell the north goods and then the north would turn around and sell the goods to foreign countries and did not give the south a fair share of the profits if none at all.

Not looking for flames here, just curious to know why DoH was a 'positive' show

Whoa! If ya didn't want flamed ya should have refrained from posting.

To begin with, it's a joke! A comedy show! No one ever got hurt. Though they supposedly ran moonshine, I never saw any. The cops were small town, corrupted by the mayor, imbeciles.

Do you take everything you see on TV seriously? Ever watch a bugs bunny cartoon? I've seen more racism in Tom and Jerry than there was on the "Dukes'.

How do you get the idea it glorified criminal behavior? Generally the Dukes were thwarting Boss Hogs illegal schemes. That was pretty much the shows premise. "Boss" would figure out how to line his pickets with the citizens money and the "Boys" with the help of Jesse and Daisy, gave it back to it's rightful owners. Runnin shine has been how many of the poor people during the depression, up to and including recently, were able to eat, to say nothing of being the birth of stock car racing. There would be no "shine" if the government didn't tax the heck out of everything under the sun and make it illegal for anyone to bypass paying their friggn taxes. As far as crime is concerned I would put runnin a still somewhere down around a speeding ticket. There are exceptions to everything. Are there unscrupulous evil bastards involved occasionally? Of course! Just like in every other walk of life, especially politics.

I think maybe ya just need to buy a larger size hat. The one you're wearing appears to be a size to small and it is obviously putting pressure where you don't need it.
