Commentator saying a bigger Boeing (767 maybe). 737 too small for overseas flight, he says.

MSNBC expert: probably NOT 737, but rather 757 or 767

Looks like it is in the ravine at the end of the runway on the south side of the airport (the runway that is aligned northeast to southwest). Can see it here on Google maps, enter 'Toronto, CA' move a few miles west of downtown to the large airport, then switch to the satellite aerial photo:

Not a 737, they aren't Transatlantic (except for PrivatAir)

If it's a European airline and over 200 people, it isn't a 737 - more likely an A330.

Fire on both wings either side of the fuselage, extending about a third of the way to the wingtips. Fuselage completely shrouded in black smoke.

Major confusion between Luftansa and Air France, between a Boeing 737 and an Airbus product, and between takeoff and landing.

Flames spreading to the right and over the fuselage, and a fire truck attacking the flames now.

Pretty decent storms around Toronto in the last hour... was at least some rain at the airport.

I hope everyone got out.

Air France Flight 358. Confirmed by Pearson Airport officials.

If the plane went into that ravine evacuation would have been a challenge. Plus, plane would have been at full rotation speed. Not good.

White smoke now, but still large flames, and black smoke.

I know that they have to keep a safe distance and there's rough terrain, but I don't see the activity I normally associate with such an emergency like ambulances leaving ands other equipment coming and going.

Still looks bad.

At times like this, the media is totally worthless. They just shout out whatever the director says into their earpiece, oftentimes contradicting whatever they said 30 seconds ago.

That would certainly make a difference as to how much fuel was on board.
