Danny Glover: Latin station won't demonize U.S.

American actor Danny Glover on Tuesday defended a new TV station financed by Venezuela's government as a way to bring Latin America together, denying claims by critics that it will be used to demonize the United States.

The channel Telesur, which Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has promoted as an alternative to foreign media giants, began regular broadcasts Sunday and is transmitting news, documentaries and other programs to various Latin countries.

"Certainly the television station itself is not a tool that would be used to demonize the north," said Glover, a member of the station's advisory board. "It is a tool to be used to celebrate the extraordinary diversity of this hemisphere."

"It is a tool to be used to celebrate the extraordinary diversity of this hemisphere."

There's certainly a tool featured in this article...and it ain't the television station.

Danny sealed it for me when he was practically the only person who bashed Reagan after his death. The man's a left-wing wacko, enough said. Whoopi Goldberg's character in "The Color Purple" should have cut Glover while shaving him.

Danny Glover said Telesur "came out of an extreme passion...to discover or to elevate one's own voice."

Danny Glover: Yet another Hollywood "useful idiot" who's under the impression he's smarter than he actually is.

The station has drawn concern in the U.S. Congress, where House members last week approved a measure to transmit radio and television broadcasts to Venezuela to ensure citizens receive "accurate news."

Chavez, an outspoken critic of the U.S. government and a close friend of Castro, regularly criticizes U.S. "imperialism" in places from Haiti to Iraq.

The Guardian newspaper of Britain reported that in one recent broadcast a swastika painted on a U.S. flag flashed across the screen.

Glover said the "control of ideas by the established media" in the United States also has created "a large degree of insecurity and fear."

The actor, a supporter of Chavez, praised Venezuela's elections in recent years as examples of democracy and said, "I've been encouraged by what I see here."

Glover gave a speech at Princeton University in Oct. 2001, barely six weeks after the WTC/Pentagon attacks.

During the hour long anti-American hatefest, Glover called the U.S. "the REAL terrorist" nation, and rattled off America's foreign policy interventions as proof.

During the speech, in which he spoke of his adamant opposition to the death penalty, he went so far as to say that Osama bin Ladin's life should be spared (if caught) despite the murder of 3000 innocents.

Cut him some slack. Danny is deeply saddened because his hero Fidel Castro seems to be having troubles of late.

Smelly, communist dictators, tyrants, and despots are thinning out in this hemisphere.

And he can't sing Calypso like his buddy.

And Mel hasn't handed him any sure-hit freebies in a LONG time.

And companies aren't too willing to have him as their spokesman (MCI) after they get emailed to pieces.

Yes, his future lies with nearby Stalinists.

Why is he still here yet? I thought he and all of his ilk were going to leave the oppressive U.S.A.?

TV stations don't kill people, fanatics kill people, right Danny?

But then why do you demonize my gun which is only a tool to protect me from fanatics.
