Hillary Clinton: I Tried to Join the Marines USA Today's report on Sen. Hillary Clinton's newfound appeal as a possible commander in chief omitted a key part of her resume that proves she's long been a hawk on military and defense issues: her attempt to join the Marines 30 years ago. Or at least that's what she claimed. Seated beside her husband, the former first lady recounted her military experience during a 1994 TV interview.
"Gee, now it was probably 19 years ago - in 1975," Mrs. Clinton recalled. "I decided that I was very interested in having some experience in serving in some capacity in the military."
"Because we all love the military so much," Mr. Clinton interjected helpfully.
Hillary resumed: "So I walked into our local recruiting office, and I think it was just my bad luck that the person who happened to be there on duty could not have been older than 21. He was in perfect physical shape." She remembered telling the recruiter, "I wanted to explore - I didn't know whether I thought active duty would be a good idea, reserve, you know, maybe National Guard, something along those lines." But Hillary's bid to become a leatherneck soon came unraveled. "This young man looked at me and he said, 'How old are you?'" she recalled. "I said, 'Well, 27' ... I had these really thick glasses on. "He said, 'How bad's your eyesight?' "I said, 'It's pretty bad.' "And he said, 'How bad?' "So I told him. "He said, 'That's pretty bad.' "And he finally said to me, he said: 'You're too old. You can't see. And you're a woman.' And then he went on ... this man, young man, was a Marine. "He said, 'But maybe the dogs [Army] would take you.'" "This is not a very encouraging conversation," Mrs. Clinton recalled thinking. "So maybe I'll look for another way to serve my country." The original transcript of Hillary's "I-tried-to-join-the-Marines" interview has vanished from the LexisNexis archives, but excerpts from a rebroadcast on Rush Limbaugh's old TV show are still available.

LOL
That's nothing, before that she climbed Mt Everest, look it up
The word was LOATHE billy dumbass liar clintoon- you said (in writing) that you LOATHE the military.
OK senator hilLIARy.. it should be easy to track down a 21 year old marine in a recruiting office ... where did you say?
So, she is saying that she is more of a man then her "draft-Dodging" husband?
Hillary's quite the Storyteller....
Shameless.
Yeah, I know, puke alert is implied simply by the name Hillary, but this is such a pukey story.
THIS is FROM the 1990's.....
I say she should stand by this story. We all know how well using military experience works for democrats.
Pray for W and Our Iraq Winning Troops
GULP!!!!! Hillary 'Robthem' Clinton volunteered to be a DRAFT DODGER????????????????sarcasm, ya'll
Next she'll tell us she once blockaded an abortion clinic with Randall Terry.
I am thinking that in 1974 the Marines did not want here and 30 years later in 2005 - they still do not want her.
I am thinking that in 1974 the Marines did not want here and 30 years later in 2005 - they still do not want her.
That's about as good as her being named after Sir Edmund Hillary!!!! She's a real Pinnochio!
Just damn. Beautiful graph.
As a former Marine, I have heard the exact claim from people on finding out that I served with them. It always goes, I was going to join the Marines, but..... The majority of people I served with felt the calling to be in an elite service and did not look for second best. So the saying goes, "The few, the proud."
Yeah? As what... ordinance?
1975 is the year she married Bill. Sounds perfectly plausible to me that she wanted to get away from sad sack of shit Bill so badly she visited a marine recruiter. LOL!
I can smell it from here! What a load of crap, and that's just her picture!
Yeah, like they put out a call for MOABs back in those days. Tell me another one!
1975? She worked sssssoooo hard for the Nixon resignation and downfall of the Nixon Administration in August 1974 while employed on Capitol Hill that a year later she wanted to join the Marines but instead married Bubba in 1975. The same Bubba who was a draft dodger. ROTFLMAO! The lies this woman tells to anyone who'll believe them. (wiping the tears of laughter from my face)
Imagine the response from the hypocritical MSM had Laura Bush did this.
Come 2 think of it the real Marine in the Clinton family is Bill "Chesty Puller" Clinton.
Even the Army wouldn't take THIS dog!
Excerpt left out:
He said, "How much do you weigh?"
I said, "Why does that matter?"
He said, "Because we don't let obese sows in the Marines."
As others have pointed out, Hilary had a law degree by that point. Thus the recruiter was turning away a potential JAG officer.
If Hilary is telling the truth, that's one dumb recruiter. Of course, an alternate hypothesis comes to mind...

"Chelsea, during the Vietnam war I wished I were a Marine but all I got was this stupid hat."

Please read the outstanding book by R. Emmett Tyrell, "Madame Hillary," pub. 2004, ISBN No. 0895260670. He stated that Hillary would recycle this boast about attempting to join the Marine Corps once she seized the opportunity.
Ya, and if she had served, as a BAM. that would have been her sole qualification. And they would most likely have $hit canned her before she got through Boot. The Meir thought of the hildabeast being in my Marine Corps sickens me!
ping
I want to sign up as, yknow, a General.
Not this again!
Yeah. It was America's loss.
I thought of that same lie when I read this.
They enjoy lying just to see if they can get by with it. It's entertainment to them.
I've read that story in a rather critical autobiography of her. It may very well be true. Who knows what was going through her mind then?
Sean is going to talk about it after a break.
Thanks for the ping, sweetie.
For the first time in my life words fail me.
