And in LA, about as competent with their weapons.
I always get a laugh when Hollywood portrays the LAPD as extremely accurate marksmen.
LA is not the place to jackass around. The LAPD will shoot people just to make sure their guns are still working.
I'm glad the bastard is dead.
The most egregious is when Mel Gibson shoots that smiley face at the range in "Lethal Weapon."
Yeah, but the LW series is mostly comedy anyway....

IIRC
Northridge had a bank robbery that included an incredible chase.
I think it was in the 80's though, and could not find it on the net easily.
Group of bad guys show up at a bank with two vans. They rob the bank, but as luck (good or bad) has it, a cop pulls into the parking lot and figures it out just in time to pop a shotgun round in their vicinity. Driver of one van is killed by a 00 pellet to the neck. They leave in the one van after shooting the cop. They were heavily armed with auto rifles (not semis), shotguns and handguns.
Instant chaos ensues, bad guys have a truck waiting. Truck has side boxes and a platform in the center of the bed, where gunmen were firing at the following cops. Cops had to give the truck 1/2 mile lead because the gunmen fire was accurate to about 1/2 mile and they were getting their windshields shot out. They were also using fire bombs modified to be shot out of shotguns. They were also accurately shooting the helicopter following them.
The fled for the hills, and surrendered because the forest scared them.
I think there were over twenty cop cars ruined and two police helicopters, but I could be a little wrong about the numbers.
But the cops did not have any long range capable weapons here either.
Does this sound like the one you wanted, Spktyr?
DK
That was the one I named, but I was thinking of the North Hollywood one where the two goblins made automatic weapons and sprayed the surrounding countryside.
Does illustrate the amount of time that this has been a doctrinal problem for LAPD and surrounding agencies, though.
How totally depressing. Cops are constantly in the line of fire, laying down their lives to protect and serve. Leaving judgement for what has happened in the hands of GOD.
One thing that's always bugged me around FR is the unwavering support of the police, even when they are wrong.
Having a husband who works in the court system and has to watch cops lie on the witness stand day after day sort of spoils one's opinion of local police.
Yes, this whole thing stinks to high Heaven.
"I'm with you on that one. Police officers are human too and have the foibles and weaknesses that we all have. In my town there have been many instances of officers committing crimes such as sexual battery on an elderly woman, dealing drugs, neglecting children, harrassing ex-spouses, spouse abuse and child molestation. But when they commit a wrong while in the line of duty,( like choking a perp to death while he was hog-tied) they are almost always excused from receiving any punishment.
I was responding to this quote in the above reply.
Why did they not bring in a sniper?
They brought in SWAT, I am guessing the SWAT team has a sniper....but I am not sure. This father of the baby is the bad guy not the cops. They were being fired upon. This guy is no different than the terrorists who use women & children as shields from our military. This guy is actually worse as he was sick enough to use his own baby.
LAPD are not knowwn for their great shooting skills, but I will wait for more info before passing judgement.
How and when did the officer get shoot and why were 300 rounds shot off
It could be they lost their cool and just let lose on the guy holding the baby
