I am not a fan of Villar/Villagaroisa, but do you really think that only Anglos are qualified to be Mayors in this country? Besides, Hahn was a corrupt incompetant a-s who deserved to lose.
I read differing accounts of what happened. That said, my point still stands - the LAPD prefers volume of fire over accuracy of fire.
Oh and this guy didn't kill himself, suspect #2 was shot multiple times, including head shots, and bled to death at the scene.
Yeah, they made a movie about it too, and it was bad, not accurate, and the actors sucked.
Actually it was reversed. The guy off'd himself with a headshot. The other was sprayed down MP-5 style after having his legs shorted.
I should've read the whole thread...
To think, New Yorkers used to move to California because it had "less crime."
There was also some god-awful cop show episode where they "retold" the robbery, but the two stars found a record company exec's bulletproof Suburban and used that as cover to get to the bad guys and miraculously saved the day through pinpoint-accurate shooting. Complete and utter garbage. It was so memorable that I don't remember the name of the (short-lived) series.
NY is good for that as well. Granted this is a hostage situation and engagement may be different (or not if it's fire upon being fired upon) but the cops were in jeopardy and defended their lives.
And they suspects relatives actually tried to sue LAPD for letting him bleed to death, and not allowing paramedics into the scene. Of course the scene was not secured as they didn't know if more suspects were in the area/involved.
Nothing could have saved him anyway. He was full of holes, even with the body armor.
You should have seen the SLA shoot out in south central. The house was completely burnt to the ground, and LAPD continued to fire hundreds of rounds into the burning rubble after the house collapsed.
A friend of mine actually scanned that and sent that to me a few years ago - very interesting reading. Heck if I know where it is now, though.
Sounds familiar...but Federal and down in TX.
I heard about that; doesn't surprise me. Wall Of Lead, indeed.
The LAPD can manage something like that all on their own.
I once saw a crack house that the LAPD had raided. The walls had so many holes in them that they looked like swiss cheese. The only problem was that the house was so old and so ill-maintained that even the crack dealers had moved out about a month prior and there had been nobody inside at the time of the raid.
Maybe some LA-area Freepers can help me out here and tell me who was the last remotely "conservative" Mayor of LA. Sam Yorty?
The live, real time video from the news chopper was actually zoomed in on the suspect that was walking with the pistol, and showed this guy walking towards leo's, and getting hit dozens of times, you could see his clothing being buffeted by bullets, even with the body armor that had to be extremely painful. The camera zoomed in closer and this guy points the pistol under his chin and executes himself, and drops like a rock.
They only showed it once, live during the robbery, but never again.
In reality these guys are really stupid. They had no exit strategy and could have never gotten away. More successful bank robbers are generally unarmed, but claim to be in their note they quietly pass to the teller. But they usually get caught eventually.
