Baltimore police said yesterday they raided an East Baltimore clothing store allegedly used as a front for the illegal sale of high-powered weapons and accessories, including assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition and body armor.

Organized-crime detectives raided the store, Moon Wear in the 2400 block of Greenmount Ave. on Thursday, about 15 hours after its owner, Andre Mills, 33, was pulled over on a traffic stop, police said. During the stop, officers said they discovered ammunition for high-powered rifles.

Police obtained a warrant and searched the store, recovering one Bushmaster assault rifle, three handguns, a Mossberg shotgun equipped with a sidewinder drum magazine and laser sight, 34 handgun magazines, five holsters, 100 boxes of shotgun shells and about 1,000 rounds of ammunition, including rounds used in AK-47 assault rifles. Police also recovered $1,200 in cash.

"We do believe [the suspect] was trafficking firearms" from the store, said Anthony Barksdale, acting chief of the department's organized crime division. "It looks like we got quite a bit of weapons, but some might be on the street."

Police obtained a warrant...

Having rifle ammunition in Maryland is probable cause for a search warrant?

And the only thing in the list that looked illegal was the feed on the shotgun.

Just goes to show how out of touch I am: if somebody came into my store and "recovered" $1200 in cash, I'd think I should call the cops.

Yes. Mills was on probation.

"Arms cache"???

In the good old days anyone with more than one firearm was described by the liberal media as possessing an "arsenal". Apparently today "Arms cache" is more inflammable?

Yes. Mills was on probation.

Ok. Never having been on probation, I didn't know that.

Thanks.

Why would you want laser sights on a semi-auto shotgun? Seems to me that's pretty much a peep and blast kind of weapon.

"inflammable" should be "inflammatory"

If that puny little amount of stuff is an "arms cache" I wonder what the Maryland hoplophobes would think of the stuff a few people of my acquaintance have in their possession.

I guess if you own anything more modern than a blunderbuss its considered an arms cache or an arsenal ;)

"Mills had been serving probation for previous gun charges, police said."

Now if the 'staff' would have put this little tidbit in the lead paragraph the rest of the article would be pretty much superfluous junk and wouldn't merit publishing.

And as to this guys "arms cache" - Bwahahaha, well someone needs to get out more often.

Who would put a laser sight on a shotgun?

I wonder if their SUVs have 'spinner wheels' too.

Home defense. Traditional sights are hard to use in dim light.

I wonder what the previous guncharges where though?
Something serious or just some silly thing like having the wrong magazine capacity on a legal semiauto?

Or, if they have a baseball cap with a propeller on top....

Is it just me or does a "Cache" consisting of 5 weapons seem modest?

No, it's not just you.

And look at his ammo "cache". 250 shotgun rds, and 1000 metallic cartridges.

Sheesh. I and most people I know would consider 1000 rds the bare minimum - and that's 1000 rds for each caliber, not total.
