Roy Moore May Run for Ala. Gov.
NewsMax ^ | 6/29/05 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 06/29/2005 8:29:30 AM PDT by wagglebee

Judge Ray Moore, the central figure in the losing battle to keep the Ten Commandments posted at the Alabama State Courthouse, says he may run for Alabama governor. He also has some tough words to say about the two Supreme Court decisions on the posting of the Decalogue in public places.

Appearing on Hannity and Colmes Monday, Moore said, "There is a lot of talk. I've been asked many times to run, and I am seriously considering it. I'm praying about it, and I'll make my decision sometime in the fall."

He added that God had opened the door for him to run, and that he would pray about going through it.

Hannity asked, "Do you want to run? Is this something you want to do, you think?" Moore replied, "Well, it's something I think that the state needs, but the question is, is that what I'm to do? Is that what God would have me do?"

Earlier he told Alan Colmes that the real issue in the two court decisions "was about whether or not the state can acknowledge God, which is the basic issue in this case in which the court still does not address."

Noting that this court avoids the definition of the word "religion," Judge Moore explained, "Religion is defined by our forefathers, who recognized God in higher law. And they did so for a purpose. It was because they believed that God gave us that religious liberty. In fact, as late as 1946, the United States Supreme Court - and I have the case right here - recognized that God gives us that religious liberty."

When Colmes noted that one of the court's decisions said in historical context, it made sense to have religious representation as part of a larger display, Moore argued, "Historically, we did acknowledge God, but not just historically. The First Amendment prohibits the federal government from interfering with the state's rights to acknowledge God. And we can acknowledge God today as a sovereign over the state."

Amen to that.

I once thought that Judge Moore could unseat Governor Riley in the primary, but now I am not so sure. Not that many in AL or elsewhere rallied behind Judge Moore when he fought for the Ten Commandments. The GOP establishment totally opposed him and will always do so.

Not at all: if Roy Moore were only about Roy Moore, he would have quickly ceded to the national tyrant in Montgomery. He has a backbone, and some say he is only about Roy Moore. Now Trent Lott, that may be someone who is only out for himself, we shall see.

He also said that God gave us our rights...by denying God as the black robes have by the recent and past rulings....the state takes the place of God and ALL OUR RIGHTS ARE NOW IN GRAVE JEOPARDY!!!

If Judge Roy Moore ran for governor in Texas I'd vote for him so fast...this man actually gets & understands it, as the Founders. If he'd lived in the day when our Founders lived...he'd be known today by each and everyone of us as a great man.

Unfortunately, Judge Moore would have had to live in TX for five years before he could run for governor. And I would imagine that he is too conservative for TX.

Oh, please. The whole "10 Commandments" stunt was specifically to set himself up for this run -- the only reason he'd pass it up is if he's still drawing high enough speaking fees that he'd rather just continue to make money than run for office (especially if he's not 100% sure he'd win).

Judge Roy Moore is the kind of American America needs. Thank God he's not secular and understands the depth of our Founders thinking. America needs many more men like Judge Roy Moore. Secular thinking will not hack it in the coming years.

So your saying that Roy Moore was in cahoots with the ACLU and the higher court so he could run for higher office? Pass the tinfoil.

Moore deliberatly picked a fight he knew he would lose so that he could play the "wronged victim" card. And it's depressing that so many people have fallen for it.

Moore is nothing more than a political prostitute. He engineered the whole 10 Commandments flap just to further his political career. And, it really worries me that so many of my fellow Alabamians are stupid enough to be hoodwinked by this charlatan.

"The GOP establishment totally opposed him and will always do so."

Proving once again that the GOP isn't interested in defending the first amendment. Oh wait, Bush signed CFR.

I'm so sick of these GOP elites. Don't get me wrong, they're better than the Democommies....but that's not saying much.
Vote for Repubs: a small, yet insignificant "brake" on socialism
Vote for Dems: pushing the fast forward button to socialism

Looks like we're screwed either way. We need to take our party back and I pray one day we get a REAL conservative...in the vein of our founding fathers.

I'm pulling for George Allen in 08....he seems very conservative. That might push America in the direction it needs to go...back to the right.

I actualy liked the way he stood strong for something. It was refreshing to watch someone stand on principal and lose their job for it. The guy did call in the ACLU and the higher courts to start this mess... He acted the same way any one of us would have if the govt. came to our door and demanded that we turn our guns over to them. Resist at all cost, that is what he did, and he paid a price. They try to take my guns not only will I pay the price a few of them will also. :D

That hits the nail on the head! Both parties seem to be holding strong to the unspoken 'Open Borders' policy and I can see no reason for that bi-partisan alignment other than to overthrow our sovereignty through a diluted national identity. GHWB's New World Order. The Global Village.

I do not see how Judge Moore's defense of the Ten Commandements was designed to further his political career. He lost his office over his defense of constitutional principles.

OK, so Moore is elected governor, he installs the 10 Commandments monument in the state capitol, then what? Does he resign? The 10 Commandments is the only thing I've heard him express an interest in. What does he do when faced with budgets and schools and attracting business and building roads and all the non-headline-grabbing minutia that take up a governor's time? Where does he stand on any of that?

He got his name in front of the news. Losing his position as a Justice was small potatos. He hasn't suffered financially, and his name is being bandied about for the Republican candidacy for governor. And, by wrapping his hypocritical ass in the 10 Commandments he can be assured of getting the evangelical vote.

I am unsure if Judge Moore would get the evangelical vote. Didn't Bill Clinton poll some 35 percent of that vote nine years ago? And GA Jimmy got a majority of it in 1976.

The inability to post tacky stone monuments in front of courthouses is nowhere near the biggest of Alabama's problems

Alabama, for example, ranks 49th out of the states for infant mortality.

Had that been his goal, he could have easily won. His goal was to attempt to restrain the Federal Governemnt to it's Constitutional limits. He failed. I'm sure he is willing to try again. He will likely fail again as long as most people who claim to support limiting the Federal Government attack the motives of those who actually try.....
