True. But if Nixon hadn't backed Felt it's doubtful Reagan would have used the political capital to pardon him. Republican leaders backed Felt when the leftist wolves tried to pull him down. Better men than Felt were sent to jail defending Nixon's administration. In return, Felt stabbed them all in the back.
