Haitian Man Arrested For Cyberstalking News Anchors

June 24, 2005 1:45 p.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Raleigh, NC (AHN) - A Haitian native is currently in jail for threatening 5 local news anchors via computer in a local library.

Fern Georges, 33, is charged with four counts of cyberstalking and three counts ethnic intimidation with violence, both are misdemeanors, but the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations found Georges to be a flight risk imposing a $100,000 bond.

Anchor Gerald Owens says, "The e-mails were sexual in nature, raunchy, particularly to my female colleagues. To me, they were physically threatening."

The four anchors and meteorologist are from the local CBS affiliate WRAL-TV in Raleigh.

Two of the anchors who received racially insulting e-mails from Georges happen to be African American, including Owens and co-anchor Pam Saulsby.

One e-mail states, "Please tell Gerald Owens that if he keeps playing under the table, I'll burn a cross in his bedroom."

The two week investigation also involved anchor Debra Morgan who forwarded her e-mails to the "SBI" as well after receiving attacks from Georges as well.

WRAL-TV news director Rick Gall says, "The SBI knows what to take seriously and what to dismiss. They immediately seized upon this as being serious."

"The SBI tracked the messages to the terminal in Benson, and librarians helped agents zero in on Georges by matching log-in times with the times the messages were sent," Johnston County District Attorney Tom Lock told the News& Observer.

The other anchors involved in the incident were Laurie Clowers and meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

But but but, I thought libraries were sacrosant and no one dare investigate the patrons.

Oh, I forgot, this is a crime against the media.

Debra Morgan isn't black. Well on the bright side he didn't pick on the poor NBC affiliate over in Durham. Course then again as cheap as that set looks, one wonders if they have email...

Actually, I hate to sound like a bigot, but Haitians are just in their own special space. I had a friend (black American) who was married to a Haitian and she told me that every day was like being in some weird story, where everybody else knew what was going on and you didn't.

I'm sure there are many Haitians out there who are normal folk, but many seem to have a strange obsessive streak that is probably one of the things that has prevented the island from ever moving ahead. They probably got it from the French.

LOL!!
There was a low power UHF station out of Rocky Mount about 10-15 years ago.
They had a "news" program that was so cheaply done it was HILARIOUS.

The poor weather guy had a 4-sided map that sat on the table, and he had to spin it with his hand and use a pointer for the various maps.

We used to laugh at him so much.

Now he's employed by WNCT in Greenville.

If you have ever worked in food and beverage you would know that Hatians are the hardest working people. They work 2 jobs usually and have no complaints about it. Incredible work ethic.

One of the problems is that there are Haitians - and then there are Haitian intellectuals. The latter are fatally influenced by France, are totally schizy, and are one of the reasons Haiti is still the hell-hole of the Caribbean. My friend was married to one of them.

You knew a weirdo.

I had numerious friends who were haitian when I was in High School and a few in college.

The one thing that always stuck out to me about them was the hatred of being called african american instead of being called haitian american or carribean american.

Alot of african americans have had problems with them, which these people don't deserve, lets not pile on.

Yeah, she is cute, and I noticed today pregnant.
Normally I watch WTVD.
David Crabtree turned me off when he first arrived by showing his ultra liberal side. Hate missing Greg's weather though.

No, I'm not kidding.

But Debra Morgan annoys me. She seems quite vapid.
And Pam Saulsby has ALWAYS gotten on my nerves.
