I agree. This case reveals a lot that we did not know before - that end-of-life laws are being edited, revised, expanded by "someone" (with what authority?) while we just go on with our lives not realizing they are deciding who can live and who has to die because of "criteria".

This affects each and every person, their family and affects what kind of country we leave for our descendents. Seems that is something to be discussed IMO.

yeah...

I just don't want to see FR degenerate to the state it was right around her death.

It was just stupid on here. I am glad it has recovered, but the wounds are still there.

<< .... Schiavo's attorney .... said .... that if Schiavo had not called 911 immediately .... Terri Schiavo would have died that day. >>

Shiavo's attorney has no such knowledge -- just as, on the evidence, I have know way of knowing other than if Shiavo had thought he could get away with offing Mrs Shiavo that day, he would have.

Michael Shiavo should promptly file suit in federal court, naming several government officials, including Jeb for harrassment and sur for an absolutely astronomical amount. This is just becoming ludicrous.

And Jeb's lawyer, KEN CONNOR was on tv last night saying "maybe this will vindicate Michael Schiavo." I don't trust any of them. They must clear Michael to clear Charlie Crist and Sheriff Rice so they can run for Governor and Fla AG in 2006. If they would win, two real doofuses would be in charge of Florida.

One suspected murder case at a time.

So if the dehydration didn't cause the brain shrinkage, could an insulin overdose have caused it? (Obviously the brain didn't shrink because of cardiac arrest, or disuse, did it??) One of the nurses alleged that Michael injected Terri with insulin, but didn't relate it to possible brain damage....

Finally, some voices of sanity after all the overblown hysteria I've seen on some of the other threads. What is this going to accomplish except keep the "Terri was murdered" crowd coming back for more?

the "shrink" occured over time, long after the initial necrosis on the night of the incident......my hypothesis addresses only what might have happened that night using insulin and cleverness......this could very easily have been accomplished with insulin, but would have been much more difficult and chancy if making use of the lack of oxygen......IOW a longer period to manipulate the effects and outcome using insulin vs oxygen......

I mean he could ask Michael Schiavo whether he called 191 immediately, he'll reply yes.
Anything else?

The implication is that that Michael caused the injury.

Waiting 40-70 minutes to make a call to 911 is held out as evidence of that implication. But as far as I know, waiting to call for help is never criminal. It isn't even negligent unless the person being sued has a legal duty.

The call for a review could be taken as a favor to the putative accused, Michael Schiavo. "Investigated and officially cleared" is better that being under the cloud of rumor.

"Oral insulin doesn't lower blood sugar; if it did thousands of diabetics would be ecstatic because they wouldn't have to inject it."

the above is at least 50% Wrong!
Results 1 - 10 of about 27,100 for "oral insulin".

On May 3, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health approved the first oral spray formulation of insulin (Oral-lyn, made by Generex Biotechnology Corp.) for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus. The approval is expected to pave the way for similar approvals worldwide.

The device delivers insulin for buccal absorption with no lung deposition. According to a company news release, the oral formulation is intended to offer a safe, simple, convenient, fast, and effective alternative to prandial insulin injections.

The approval was based on the results of clinical trials involving more than 250 patients with diabetes, showing that use of the product yielded insulin and blood glucose levels consistent with those achieved by injected insulin.

Since 1995, Generex has been conducting studies on buccally absorbed insulin formulations. Studies have followed a standard clinical path and have included animal trials, trials in healthy volunteers, and trials in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Generex's clinical trials, conducted on over 250 people, have been strongly positive. The data shows that insulin and blood glucose levels following the administration of Oralin via our RapidMist device are consistent with levels achieved by injected insulin. (See more on study below)

"What discrepacies? "

"Oh - it must be the discrepency between those who brayed from the rooftops that Terri was a potentially fully-functioning person (proven false), and that MS was a wife-abusing monster (also proven to be crap)."

So Coopster--Where's your proof? MS knows what happened--he was the only one with her when this happened.
She told a friend at work the day before that MS would be home from work around 5am and she planned to pretend to be asleep. WHAT HAPPENED? Did he body slam her? The fact that she was dehydrated to death is MURDER period! And MS ordered her murder.

Let's all agree that she is in a better place now.

Granted, but irrelevant to the here and now since it is impossible for us to make laws or policy for the afterlife.

Let's change the way the horrible law is written in Florida.

I don't really "get" this charge. My take on the Schiavo case is that Greer wrongly found a patient's forward-looking wish to be denied basic care of food and water (by tube if necessary) if rendered to a certain physical/mental state that included incapacity.

The law does not penalize a refusal of basic needs, if that is what the patient wishes. And in the Schiavo case, the finding was that Terri willed the outcome of her own death, under the circumstance of irreversible incapacity. As noted above, my take is that the judge did not accurately find the patient's wishes. What change in law do you propose that fixes this sort of error?

I assert that the process of civil law is inadequately prepared to deal with life/death decisions. Errors in findings of fact at trial level are very hard to reverse at appellate level. This balance is okay for money matters, because the consequences of systemic error are not wrongful death. But the process lacks the types of checks that are in place to prevent killing of a person who does not desire or warrant a premature end.

I haven't fleshed out what changes to civil law might be appropriate, but do assert that the problem is at a process/systemic level, as well as at the statutory level.

Let's quit the bickering amongst ourselves over this.

If you propose a change in law that addresses similar circumstances, you will have contributed to a reduction in bickering.

Personally, I think some social ills are persistent beyond the reach of law. In the case of care for incapacitated life, that legal remedies are powerless in the face of loss of commitment to the principle that human life is a sacred gift from God.

That's the problem - there is no evidence to suspect murder ...

Given the (public) profile of the case, some actions will be different from the norm. In this case, investigation is aimed at clearing the integrity of "the system." While it is a pain in the ass, an investigation can also provide further clearance for Michael. Better to grin and bear it than to fight it.

That insulin is absorbed ORALLY is beyond dispute.....and it has been known for many years. Dosage/modulation is all that is "experimental".

My hypothesis is well within the realm of reality. Therefore, it IS a possibility.....but I WILL point out that if it is what actually happened, he will NEVER be found out with any certainty.
