FR Book Club: What's on your Summer Reading List?
June 17, 2005

Posted on 06/17/2005 10:47:19 AM PDT by Tanniker Smith

The Free Republic Book Club is an informal gathering of readers and lovers of all genre of books, which meets on an irregular basis (whenever I remember to post and have a copy of the ping list available.)

If you would like to be on this ping list, please send me mail and I'll include you. If you wish to be removed, please send mail. If you already sent me mail wishing to be removed and you were pinged anyway, oops, my apologies, please request again (sorry about that).

Today's topic: what's on your summer reading list? Whether you are going on vacation, sitting on the beach or just hanging out on your front porch, there's usually a good novel nearby. Any particular plans or will it be a more serendipitous approach?

I got One for the Money today. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done.

Start at the beginning, if you can!

Yeah, I like the way she names them, in numerical order.

I love Dick Francis.

Our daughter was doing a writing class at the public library in N. Providence. On the second visit, I disovered that on the 'Sale' racks, they had a bunch of hardback Dick Francis novels. I ended up buying 12 of them for $1 each! WooHoo! I love them!

Chapter 11's name is explained on p. 512 and comes from the fact that he will run the hot dog company into the ground five years after their father's death.

I'd like to know how everyone rated their summer books.

I'm reading "Leeway Cottage" by Beth Gutcheon.

I read the following books this summer & I would recommend them all. Gulag was a little long & fact-filled, but very informational.

Washington's Crossing - David Hackett Fischer
Gulag - Anne Applebaum
Love and Hate in Jamestown - David Price

I just ordered the Mother Angelica book & can't wait for it to arrive.
