During a Monday nights speaking engagement in Phoenix, Priests for Life founder and friend of the late Terri Schiavo and her family Father Frank Pavone put liberal Governor Janet Napolitano in her place.
During the Q&A session following his talk, a local told the well-know pro-life priest that the governor says abortion is a matter between a woman and her doctor. Here's how Pavone responded:
"An abortionist is not (a woman's) her doctor. She doesn't know his name. It is worse than back-alley clinics what's happening in abortion today. Are you (pro-lifers) interfering, getting between a doctor and a woman? No. What disease, governor, does abortion cure? What benefit does it bring for a woman? Abortion is exactly the opposite [of helping the body]. I would invite her, if she is concerned about women's health, to examine the mountains of evidence about how abortion harms women's health."
Now Napolitano knows how former president Bill Clinton felt when the late Mother Theresa set him straight on abortion and told him to stop killing babies. Napolitano was raised Catholic, but is one of the most pro-abortion governors in Arizona history.
Father Pavone also said that last November the U.S. "avoided going into the abyss" by not electing pro-abortion presidential candidate John Kerry.
"Someone said, "oh, that's partisan," Pavone said. "I don't mind criticizing a political party that supports the position that killing the unborn is okay." This comment drew a thundering ovation from his audience.
Fr. Pavone has worked hard for a long time in the defense of life on principle. It's not surprising to see him come out with well suited words, because he speaks from the heart, but with a heart that is well-tempered by intellectual integrity, unlike many of the people he has to face in his work. When the truth is clearly expressed, you don't need rhetoric or invective. Clarity is sufficient to beat back the malady of falshood.
Well said.
Only the mentally bankrupt believe that some vibrant being soon to be born.... is just a piece of junk to be jettisoned at wil .....like some turd....that can be evacuated for the personal relief of some pathetic unfeeling female.
I have spent many years as a pro-life activist including some times in jail with the good father. He is a great guy both on a public level, and on a personal level. You get to really know someone when you are crammed six to a cell (one man cell) with a toilet that overflows constantly leaving gallons of water on the floor, and only one cement slab for all to sit on. After several days and nights treated like this you find out who really has the bragging rights for being honestly a christian and not.
I was glad to spend that time in the presence of great men like this, though i am not a catholic. The priest that accompanied us in those times will never find their names on any list for molestation, or even for mistreating others not of their religious persuasion.
Someone should do an interview with the good father and let him explain how well he was treated compared with the people in Gitmo. I never saw a single hour behind bars for peaceful pro-life protest that wasn't filled with a continious assult by the jail personel. They refused to allow us to participate in communion, and they refused to all people the basic services such as cleanliness. We just figured it was par for the course we were on, and just put up with it.
Funny how much better a armed combatant who has tried, and sometimes succeeded in killing americans gets far better treatment than we ever did. We got 3 meals a day. They consisted of one cup of tepid colored water that was supposed to be tea, two pieces of white bread (plain) with a piece of white cheese in between them. This was daily meals for days. I saw nothing wrong with that at the time, in that we were prisoners. Though our being held was often determined at later dates to have been illegal, we all figured that we were there and that was the way it was.
When this good priest speaks he has got the experience to back it up. When i saw the 90 year old bishop and his 85 year old assistant sit down in front of the "partial birth abortion clinic" right outside NY city and then get taken to the tombs as a "criminal" i knew right then that there were some priests that were there at that place that held a special place of honor in God's kingdom.
It is funny how I, not being catholic, was treated NO different than anyone else in the places i found these priests. They stand strong, and because of that, they get the opportunity to tell folks like this evil governor the truth. These men will not be out trying to win popularity contests, they are like the great priests portrayed in the old movies such as "Bells of St. Mary's." It is because of men of God like these that many of my fellow American Indian people embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I say keep up the good work honorable man of God, there are many who covet to walk in your footsteps. YOu are a humble servant of Christ and a great leader against the prevailing evil in our nation. God Bless and keep you and give you a long long life, may you outlive each and every one of your enemies.
