(AgapePress) - A Christian woman in Canada whose father was heavily involved in the homosexual lifestyle says she wants people on both sides of the border to understand how devastating homosexuality is on children. Meanwhile, the Canadian military has performed its first same-sex "wedding."

Associated Press reports that two men -- a sergeant and a warrant officer -- exchanged vows last month in a small ceremony at the chapel of a Canadian Forces base in Nova Scotia. Canada's military chaplains are under orders to treat a same-sex couple the same as a man and a woman who wish to marry. AP says the wedding was arranged and celebrated by a base chaplain from Canada's United Church. At the same time, a special Parliamentary committee has been holding public hearings before the third and final reading of C-38, a measure aimed at legalizing same-sex marriage in Canada.

Dawn Stefanowicz is a born-again Christian and mother of two. She wants that committee to know about how it was growing up with a homosexual father -- but so far, the Canadian government has shown no interest in hearing her testimony.

"I have put my name forward. I haven't been called as a witness, so I'm not expecting [that to happen]," Stefanowicz shares. "They're probably looking at me as just one person, [but] they don't realize that there are a number of children already who are growing up or have grown up with a parent who struggles with same-sex attraction."

Stefanowicz says she is fearful that the government will come down hard on anyone who publicly opposes the homosexual lifestyle. "There's a concern that a person or organization that allows something to be shared publicly could be charged with a hate crime," the Ontario resident explains. "And this can even happen within a church, it could happen within a small-group setting, it could happen just through a media interview."

She surmises that is why few Canadians have gone public with any criticism. "I haven't come across a lot [of public statements against homosexuality] in Canada," she says. "It's more in the United States that [people] have come forward and presented their stories publicly."

According to Stefanowicz, the liberal media in Canada has done a "very poor job" of presenting evidence on the influence the homosexual lifestyle has on children. "Scientific data and negative personal experiences related to this issue that are obviously relevant -- they're ignored, they're not discussed," she says.

Stefanowicz's father died of AIDS. Now, more than a decade later, she wants to go public to tell from personal experience of the devastating effect the homosexual lifestyle has on children.

On another note - fathers who cheat on their wives with other women are destroying the fabric of this society. Divorce rates are now above FIFTY PERCENT, according to some statistics. There are many other things (other than homosexuality) that is DESTROYING our families. Unfortunately most Christians (and others) don't want to confront the issues that are right in front of them. It seems that most people would rather point the finger at some "boogy" man.

Sad day for many children (each and every day) and it isn't because of the "gays".

Some divorce statistics may be misleading.

For example, simply dividing the number of divorces by the number of marriages will result in a higher percentage than dividing the number of people who have ever been divorced (one or more times) by the number of people who have ever been married.

Sure, I'd treat them the same. I reserve the right to reject any couple who desires marriage.

Any chaplain on duty with the US military is an official representative of their denomination. Their ongoing appointment is first controlled by their denomination. Once they cease performing in religious matters according to the distinctives of that denomination, then their appointment can be yanked by their denomination. At that point, the military is helpless to continue them as a chaplain.

Given the current law and regulation, they could NOT be legally ordered in our military to violate their religious beliefs.

Well, there is precedent in Canada establishing quotes from the Bible as the basis for a hate crime. I have no doubt that the atmosphere up there stifles almost all dissent on this issue.

I AGREE! There is another high number 40-50% divorce rate of people who have been divorced before, and as the number of divorces rises, (3rd marriage, 4th marriage etc) so does the percentage.
