WEINER A WAL-MART $HOPPER (yikes--another Weiner thread---will it never end?)
NY POST ^ | STEFAN C. FRIEDMAN

Posted on 06/13/2005 4:17:00 AM PDT by Liz

Rep. Anthony Weiner, Mr. Anti-Wal-Mart, has taken tens of thousands of dollars in campaign cash from businessmen who made fortunes working with the big-box store, finance records show.

The sponsor of Wal-Mart-bashing legislation that's headed to the House floor this week has pocketed more than $30,000 from two families with ties to America's No. 1 retailer.

The Cayre family, which once managed Wal-Mart's software, poured over $15,000 into Weiner's campaign coffers, mostly to his congressional fund.

And the Dabah family, which provided Wal-Mart with clothing for well over two decades, gave him over $17,000 for his mayoral run.

"Anthony Weiner has led the fight to keep Wal-Mart out of New York City," his spokesman, Anson Kaye, said. "Nothing has and nothing will dissuade him from taking a stand for New York City's working people and middle class."

Those vying for Mayor Bloomberg's job let it all hang out at a recent event sponsored by the only citywide gay Democratic club.

With taking back Gracie Mansion the theme of the Laugh Factory soiree, C. Virginia Fields performed an a cappella version of "The Jeffersons" theme song, "Movin' on Up," that brought the house down.

Gifford Miller wisely chose not to follow that, but a transgendered member of the Stonewall Democratic Club told the crowd that the City Council speaker had a "cute a**" anyway.

Not to be outdone, Weiner said the only thing that could Fields was a sword-swallowing act. The room erupted in laughter.

It's funny how the "family" of the wealth creator is always liberal (like the thread which shows the donations from 88 Central Park west). I wonder if the wealth creators themselves in the Cayre and Dabah families were Republican, like John Heinz.

...Weiner said the only thing that could (top) Fields was a sword-swallowing act.

Not surprised that the words "Weiner" and swallowing show up in a story about a NY Gay Democratic Club meeting.

(The representative is ever so witty, isn't he?)

That would be an interesting point to explore----Republicans who created wealth, and their inheritors who became Dims.

This anti-WalMart drive never ceases to amaze me. Several years ago our local merchants successfully blocked a WalMart store. The nearest one is now 40 miles away.

This community could have really used those jobs (albeit low-paying) and Grandpa could use a place to buy a bag of socks instead of paying boutique prices at the foo-foo stores. I guess regular people don't live in NYC either.

We can start with that gigolo John Kerry

So what is the reason that this Weiner is trying to keep Walmart out of New York City? Is it that Walmart pays only $8 an hour and workers there will be on welfare?

I'm kind of mixed on Wal-mart. I have supported the drive to have one in my town (though it seems like every one for miles around has one) because of the jobs and sales tax revenue our city really needs. However, they did put my wife's small clothing store out of business. I don't always approve of their business practices. I shop there from time to time (5 or 6 times a year maybe). Sometimes I prefer to go elsewhere so that I don't have to wait a half hour in line.

In most metro areas the starting pay for Walmart is around $10.30 an hour. On Sundays, they pay employees a dollar extra per hour.

They do compare salaries to other retailers when they go into an area.

Walmart actually pays that much?? I haven't seen either parts of the statement be true for here.

We have one Walmart in our city of 40,000. They are now opening another store and a Sam's on the other side of town. Walmart has been good for some people but they've also put a number of small store out of business. Starting pay is $8.50/hour. That's low but the cost of living in southern Indiana is lower than a lot of areas. $8.50 an hour would be very hard to survive on.

California is loaded with the super rich limo elite descendents of the very wealthy.

They love the wine growing areas in Santa Barbarba, Monterrey/Carmel, E Bay, Napa and Sonoma counties.

Most are uber liberal, progressive and very fascist when it comes to protecting their fortunes. They love to appear to be green to protect the family fortunes via green rules/legislation.

They own and control local politicians, rat state legislators, their local rat congressit and of course are great pals of Boxer and Fineswine.

Assuming that Jerrold Nadler has no plans to change his name to “Jello Fatass,” Anthony Weiner will likely remain the most appropriately named person in congress for the duration of his term.

What the heck is his "stand?" That he doesn't want working class people to save money when they shop?

Weiner takes a position with only one motivation----getting votes. So we can safely conclude, being anti-Wal Mart is a vote-getter.
