Interesting dig towards Christians during Boston Globe interview with Madonna
The Boston Globe ^ | June 9, 2005 | Mike Shanahan

Posted on 06/10/2005 2:26:59 PM PDT by Scarchin

What's been Kabbalah's effect on you?

To me, the definition of religion is not asking questions. In England, soccer is the religion. In America, Christianity is the religion. It's really just what a group of people tends to do because everybody else does it. . . . If you want to talk about corruption and violence and pain, let's talk about the Catholic Church. Let's talk about the Crusades, when they annihilated anyone who wouldn't convert to Christianity. That's religion, but that's not what I'm interested in.

I'm relieved to hear that. The new book, ''Lotsa de Casha," is about a man who's rich but still miserable. Doesn't money make life easier?

I was stuck in a lunchroom today with only one section of yesterday'sThe Boston Globe to read.

Desperately bored, I read the Madonna interview when this little gem caught my attention. The italics are the interviewer's (Shanahan) questions. The bold was added by me.

"I'm relieved to hear that"????

Thoughts? Am I overreacting?

Never read the Globe regardless of how desperately bored you might be. It's terrible for your blood pressure.

I certainly hope you've learned your lesson!

I really wish people like Madonna would study a little history before making such asinine remarks.

LOL!!! Believe it or not, I really have been having blood pressure problems lately. Perhaps you've pinpointed the problem.

Seriously though - don't you find it odd that a reporter is "relieved" that someone doesn't take religion seriously? I think that this is a big deal. Or am I wrong?

No, I don't.

Nor would I find it odd that this "jounalist" hates President Bush and went out of his way to fire off a barb in W's direction every chance he got.

I think "pathetic" would be a better term.

"don't you find it odd that a reporter is "relieved" that someone doesn't take religion seriously?"

It doesn't strike me as odd, it strikes me as being run-of-the-mill. And, it's one of the biggest reasons for the decline of mainstream media, and the rise of the various alternative media.

Dear Madonna,

Why did the Crusaders sack Constantinople, the capital of Eastern Christendom?

P.S. You're an idiot!

If you want to talk about corruption and violence and pain, let's talk about Islam, Madonna.

Funny how she won't take on those guys, isn't it?

Who is the biggest fool? Madonna, anyone who interviews Madonna about her brain dead New Age kabbalah beliefs and the Berg scam/cult, or anyone (like me) who reads her moronic statements? I say Madonna.

I wouldn't be too concerned.

Her grasp of history seems to be just this side of nonexistent.

Dear Madonna,

Why did Crusaders team up with Muslims to attack and kill other Crusaders teamed up with other Muslims?

P.S. You're a complete moron!

Well - I guess by "odd" is that I think that the reporter and the Globe slipped up here and no one who matters has picked up on it because..well..it's a Madonna interview.

Of course I find Madonna's comments insulting, but she's an idiot and also, she doesn't claim to be unbiased.

The Globe and their reporter, however, would deny up and down his religious bigotry. I think they've been caught here

Should I fire off something to their ombudsman for giggles?

Sure, give it a shot. Even if you don't get any results, you still have the opportunity to tick off some leftist. Any day you can tick off a leftist is a good day.

In my opinion, the Arts Section in the New York Times and the Boston Globe demonstrates equally corrosive liberal basis as the editorial pages. Nearly every review takes some kind of drive-by shot at mainstream America (including religion).

I've learned to stay away from Arts Sections altogether. I don't like being sneered at by pretentious twits. For me, that's not entertainment!

Kabbalah has been hijacked by liberals within the Jewish religion. There have been rabbis who have been kicked out for teaching Kabbalah. Kabbalah is not to be taught to anyone that is 1)Not Jewish and 2)Not doing decades long study of Judaism and most importantly 3)FEMALE.

A serious philosophy that was meant to filter out liberals has been taken over by arrogant ministers, making their own new rules and bastardizing time-old traditions What does this sound like?

Madonna (and probably a whole lot of other people as well) probably think that awful movie "Kingdom of Heaven" is accurate in its portrayal of "history", and therefore feeds this anti-Christian (golly, I'm actually starting to get USED to hearing the kind of crap like Madonna is repeating) nonsense, based essentially on non-historically accurate "facts". Doesn't everyone know that if it weren't for those nasty Christians, the WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD would be living together in peace and tranquility? AND - If the United States only sent lots & lots of money to whatever nation said they wanted it and not do anything else (like freeing nations under dictatorships), we'd be so POPULAR with everyone, including the French! They would finally LOVE US! Oh, it would be "HEAVEN"! It would be SO EASY if we just could get it. (Not)

Though probably a good point, your point isn't relevent here. Everything I want to discuss is in the excerpt.

People have been reacting mostly to Madonna's ravings and not the point that I think is more important.

How about a rule that requires people to read posts? :)

Gee, all this time I thought it was the Muslims who killed anyone who wouldn't convert to Islam. Silly me. Madonna is the smartest woman in the world, next to Hillary.

Actually, there are Christian and Hermetic traditions that adapt Kabbalistic traditions and reinterpret them in the light of Trinitarian or metaphysical doctrines. But they're small, low-key, academically-rigorous groups that would never cater to shallow celeb-types...

Funny how if someone gets famous we all get to hear their opinions on life, the universe, and everything.

What the correlation between having a worthwhile opinion on politics or religion and singing?

You might has well read an interview with Bill the plumber.
