Maybe so. I know they gather at bars to find "love."
But if there is an explanation for the lower lesbian life expectancy found by this study, I'd be interested to see it!
And, it would invalidate my conjecture above, at least on that basis.
You could be right. I have a hard time seeing it, though, since other studies support Dr. Cameron, one of which is the CDC (per the article). Plus, the study is published in the refereed scientific journal Psychological Reports.
I'm not interested. That's his field.
You can find a study or studies to suppport your views.
There's studies all over the place, but most are BOGUS.
Me too. I'll see if I can find any info.
Strange..
Here's a great story of a guy who left the homosexual lifestyle: Confession from a former homosexual
As far as I am concerned they live 20 years too long.
Latest Scientific Research: Those Struggling with Homosexuality Can Be Set FreeOnce folks realize who Robert Spitzer is, the growing number of former homosexuals (or ex-gays) takes on a whole different perspective. In 1973, Dr. Robert L. Spitzer was one of the major forces in removing homosexuality from the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) list of mental disorders. On May 9, 2001, Spitzer presented a study to the APA which proves that those struggling with homosexuality can, in fact, leave the lifestyle behind.
I read an article a few years ago, I do not remember the medical magizine it was in, that showed that lesbians had a higher rate of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) which has been shown to lead to higher rates of cervical cancer in lesbians than in the general public. HPV is the virus that is responsable for genital warts.

There's this from 1997: Sodomy: A Public Health Risk...
I haven't any reason to dispute that rates of breast cancer and ovarian/cervical cancer may be higher amongst lesbians than straight women, but it's hard to envision that they could be so much higher as to bring their life expectancy into line with that of gay men (who have a much, much higher incidence of AIDS than straight men).
This is even more the case when considering that women have a notably higher life expectancy than men anyhow, and so it would take a relatively greater drop to bring lesbians in line with gay men.
I concur. I just left a voice message with Dr. Cameron's office - perhaps I'll hear back from him tomorrow. I'll let you know.
I wonder if there's just a typo in the article, that perhaps misrepresents the study findings. I'm not the type to base too much on instinct (over reason), but it simply doesn't make sense to me instinctually that lesbians could have close to the same life expectancy as gay men. I would be very surprised if it truly turns out that gay men don't have a notably lower median age of death than lesbians.
Ewwwwww!
Lesbians and nuns have much higher rates of breast cancer since they don't have children.
MSM will say homophobia is killing 'em.
Why has onyx (since 1999-11-30) suddenly been banned?
Homosexuals of both sexes and black men are propping up the Social Security system. Were it not for these early-dying groups, SS would be closer to bankruptcy. Yet, these are the most anti-Bush, anti-SS reform Americans....strange.
Inability to cough up the hairballs?
