"A CA Guy" is Ok. As long as you aren't talking about the WosD's that is. There, he has a blind spot. Some people just see any drug use as bad. Bad, bad, bad. Drugs are bad because drugs are bad. H'mkay? It could be that shills for the Drug War are just pissed off the Anslinger lied to them. They tried dope and completely failed to have sex with a white woman or turn into a bat. It's a disappointment thing.

"Societal cost" always plays in to it as does Hillary's cry of "it's for the children". We the Individual bear the imposed costs of the WosD's and they are FAR higher costs than the original perceived drug problems.

But, it is a multi-trillion dollar incarceration, regulation, and enforcement issue for our political masters. One they will NEVER willingly let go.

"I agree it seems like sadism to keep painkillers away from people in pain."

But, it's for their own good. The DEA loves us more than life itself. How could you ever doubt that?

"Cannabis triggers transient schizophrenia-like symptoms"

As does an evening with my ex-husband.

Transient=comes and goes
schizophrenia-like=not schizophrenia
symptoms=not the disease

Smoking dope is illegal. Ergo, if you are smoking dope, you know you are doing something the Law sees as wrong. This would tend to make people look over their shoulders would it not? Also, those personality types that would engage in such risky behaviors anyway are also the same types that are prone to such mental disorders.

Your "researchers" should be ashamed of themselves. Of course, they are only following the Federal Money trail.

" get sick of people that know nothing of chronic pain trying to make laws with regards to it's treatment."

Thats all the war on drugs is. One group of morons telling another group of morons what to do. Unfortunately both groups are dumb as rocks.

Though I am infuriated by your war on drugs posts, I just wanted to mention that your posts on Saddam and Iraq have been terrific particularly the maps.

"Gee, since when did a medical condition make a person a moron"

I was referring to recreational drug users. The victimization of doctors and their patients is just an unfortunate side consequence of the idiotic war on drugs. Doctors and their patients are not morons.

"I'm afraid I don't understand your comment."

"And so it goes" => Abuse of drugs of all kinds is a longstanding problem that creates suffering; (futile) attempts to stop that behavior is a longstanding movement.

My mother worked in counseling inmates, got accommodations from several governors for her work, including Ronald Reagan.

Yup, something to be real broke up about.

Meanwhile, all you have is your illegal drugs to talk about and a possible accommodation from some local drug lord. (in the name of the constitution of course) barf!!!

Ok, the Sysiphus metaphor.

It is the human condition, but maybe a bit pessimistic. We all roll rocks uphill, but sometimes the rock stays there. My kids might not have brushed their teeth as often as I wanted, but with perserverance, they now do reasonably well. I agree we'll never get to where all kids brush their teeth as often as the dentist suggests, but wouldn't suggest we give up on the effort.

The gov't is probably the worst way to approach such things. For example, much misery in life is caused by ignorance, so we got compulsory gov't schools which turn out lots of ignorant kids into a miserable life.

Still, some schools and some teachers turn out some decently educated students.

I will agree that the idea of a War on Drugs, with the image of WWIIs unconditional surrender at the end, is indeed foolish.

Albeit recognizing the limits and costs of Govt laws in this area, and recognizing that "WOD" is an inappropriate metaphor, I dont suggest giving up on the effort, and I'm not a pro-legalization advocate. So I think we agree.

After 18 months with a chronic pain condition that has finally improved, I have come to the conclusion that before anybody makes regulations or rules about the treatment of chronic pain, they should be required to have to endure a chronic pain condition for at least one month.

Until you know how exhausting and depressing and sometimes life shattering coping with long term pain is, you shouldn't have a right to make political decisions on it.

"got accommodations from several governors for her work"

Would those "accomodations" be an apartment, a hotel room, a state car, what?

Or did you mean "commendations?"

My kids have commendations from the governor helping clean a watershed area one day.
