Howard Fineman of Newsweak was just on MSNBC with Imus before 8am this Monday morning - June 6th, 2005.
Fineman claims that Deep Throat-Felt was tried for black-bag break-ins by the FBI.
But Howard Fineman stated this morning G. Mark Felt was aquitted.
I have read and heard - that F. Mark Felt was convicted of criminal felony for authorizing the FBI break-ins of anti-war groups like the Weatherman during the LBJ administration.
I have also heard that Mark Felt was later pardoned of his felony convictions by President Ronald Reagan.
Which story is correct?
Is Fineman lying, "misinformed/spinning" for the media, or telling the truth about X. Marx Felt actually being aquitted?
If Newsweak's Howard Fineman is lying about J. Mark Felt being aquitted - Why is he lying?
"Journalistic License" - as Woodward and Bernstein did in writing in the Washington Post about Watergate and Nixon and "Deep Throat"?
I do not pretend to be an expert on Watergate and Woodward & Bernstein - But I recall laughing last night at a scene from "All The President's Men" as Robert Redford/Bob Woodward placed a red flag in a potted plant on his balcony - to signal Deep Throat - yet that balcony was not visible from the street below.
Exactly!
Worse still, the Govt. gave him a 3.5" nickel Model 27, and I've been trying to find one forever.
This works if you're Jordan, McGivern, or Bryce.... and we all know how common that is. :)
True.
Guy's a showboater---looks like he's got a case---on himself. Not exactly material for the top FBI post.
On Feb. 28, 1973, Nixon and Dean again tagged Felt as the potential leaker. He was, Dean told Nixon, "the only person that knows" such details. But Nixon was skeptical. No one would risk his career to become an informant. According to a tape recording from that day, Nixon said, "You know, suppose that Felt comes out and unwraps the whole thing? What does that do to him? . . . He's in a very dangerous situation. . . . The informer is not wanted in our society. Either way, that's the one thing people do sort of line up against. They . . . say, 'Well, that [expletive] informed. I don't want him around.' " Gray was never confirmed as FBI director, and in 1973 William D. Ruckelshaus was nominated to replace him. Felt clashed repeatedly with his new boss and left the bureau later that year, well before Nixon was to leave office. In 1978 he was indicted, along with Edward G. Miller, for nine illegal break-ins in New York and New Jersey carried out in 1972 and 1973. When he was arraigned, several hundred FBI agents showed up at the courthouse in a sign of solidarity. The two maintained they had operated within the law but were convicted in 1980. In April 1981, Reagan pardoned both men, saying they had served the country with "great distinction." In his memoir, Felt acknowledged speaking once to Woodward, but in that book and whenever else he was asked, he denied being Deep Throat. In 1999, Felt denied it again to the Hartford Courant after there was another suggestion that he was Deep Throat. "I would have done better," he told the paper. "I would have been more effective." That summer, Felt told Slate's Tim Noah it would have been contrary to his responsibilities at the FBI to leak information. -- Washington Post - June 2005 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/31/AR2005053101411_pf.html |
He ain't no "Jelly", that's for sure.
That gun sure ain't pointed at COM.
If Newsweak's Howard Fineman is lying about J. Mark Felt being aquitted - Why is he lying?
^^^^^^
Because these political reporters are so used to "revising" history, that he has convinced himself that "pardon" equals "acquittal?"
Have you seen this from the NY Post: -
Agent David Kuhn and author/lawyer John D. O'Connor in their meetings with publishers
snip
Judith Regan, the head of Regan Books, knew the identity of Deep Throat and had had extensive dealings with O'Connor and the family nearly two years ago, sources said.
She backed away from a book for a number of reasons, including some doubts on whether she could sufficiently document his claims, given his declining health and memory, sources said.
^^^^^^
Looks like O'Connor has been shopping Felt's story for several years. Questions about the timing of the Vanity Fair story become even more pertinent, if this family have had an agent and a lawyer working on it for at least two years.
No - I think not - you are being too kind and gentle to the liberal media hacks - Howard Fineman knew the truth - and he lied - no mix-up or confusion or minor error or lapse in memory.
That's like the leftie press and liberal democrats claiming that Slick Willie was never actusally impeached - he was "acquitted" - Baloney!
Bill Clinton is the only elected US President ever impeached.
Howard Fineman deliberately lied on MSNBC this morning to Imus - to start the revision of the actual historical record about Mark Felt's federal court criminal felony conviction.
Howard Fineman, like NEWSWEAK on Gitmo - got caught this morning lying for dollars and ego and power.
Free Republic is the ultimate fact-checker and watchdog over the old media hacks.
Of course he lied! I guess I should have added the character for humor/irony to my comment!
Thanks for the ping!
I tried to read linked article to the NYPost --didn't want to register, went to bugmenot, and got a page that indicated it didn't exist.
Dunno, sorry.
Feltgate
Perfect.....love it.
Good catch, devolve!
