A local woman was charged after police said she filed a false report that she was sexually assaulted by her husband.

Lakietha Evette Coleman, 32, was arraigned Tuesday in 35th District Court on a charge of filing a false police report, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.

Canton police told The Ann Arbor News that Coleman called 911 on April 29 and claimed that she had been sexually assaulted at gunpoint by her husband. Police said she also indicated that he may go to Franklin Middle School in Wayne -- where their children attend -- and take the kids.

They need to throw the book at these. Give her 4 years with no parole. Lock her up. And make her pay for wasting the cops time as well.

One estimate is that nearly half of such reports are false. Those who can be proven liars should be jailed for 5 years minimum, both to protect the innocent men whose lives NEVER recover from such an accusation, and also to protect those women who truthfully report a sexual assault.

Agreed. If we are going to be able to use the laws to protect women, then we have to make absolutely sure that they are not used as weapons against innocent men. Otherwise, people will stop believing women even when a claim is true.

The same should be done to the women who falsely accuse their soon to be ex husbands of Child abuse or molestation during divorce and custody disputes.

So...speaking of names...my last name is Kuntz and is pronounced Koonce. In 1975 I took who would later be my wife to a restaurant where I had to put in my name for a table. As we are disco-ing the night away the loud speaker is announcing reservations and finally...table for (female body part). Since then I always say "Donner"--I love it when they say "Donner Party".

I think you should face the same punishment as the innocent victim would have faced had he been convicted of the crime. Accuse someone of rape, get 10-to-20. Murder, get the needle.
