Robbie Gordon of NASCAR Will Not Drive IRL Races Against Danica Patrick, Citing Weight Advantage

Robbie Gordon of NASCAR started the discussion, saying that he wouldn't drive in the Indy Car Racing League series until they do something about Danica Patrick's weight 'advantage.'
'The lighter the car, the faster it goes,' Gordon said. 'Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our cars are at least 100 pounds heavier.'
'I wont race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away.'
I glanced at the weight of the weight of the drivers in the Indy Car Series. They are pretty much smallish guys --between 140 and 155 lbs.
He seems to be willing to race against guys who are about 60 pounds less and had no problem with it before.

Is this more of an advantage in Indy Car than it is in NASCAR?
To: gopwinsin04
no this is Robbie Gordon being a BIATCH....
he is crying because a woman would kick his butt in a race and he knows it...
his ego is too fragile.
He should stick to CAUSING wrecks in NASCAR, because that is what he does best....

With the way race cars suck down fuel, and all the science behind their aerodynamics weight isn't an advantage at all. Robbie's just a whiner.

I am certainly not Robby Gordons biggest fan, but every race I've been in, the car & driver were weighed togehter.

I WAS impressed with Danica.....but then I saw the spread she did for the New York Post (I think it was that mag.) where she is dressed like a slut on the cover. I lost complete respect for her and wish she would set a better example for the young girls who watch her.
She is no better than Paris Hilton.

Well, I suppose if you trim the weight off of Mr. Gordon's attitude, he'd drop at least a 100 lbs. Although, he'd still be at a disadvantage. Eliminate the attitude all together and he may be a contender.

In thew 50s the big joke was always that we were going to train a 12# mongoose to drive the race car!
My future partner in a speed shop stuck me in his rail when I was 12 and I went 128 in his 1/4x5/16 flathead at Santa Ana. I was 6' tall and only weighed about 130#.

Yep. Whether it's a significant advantage is unlikely, but it's more a factor in open wheel racing than in stock car racing.

Weight advantage in open wheel racing IS a big advantage. It helps with speed and importantly-FUEL MILEAGE!
I do think it is stupid to state he won't run against her. She is there legally and can't help what she weighs.
It is an advantage for her, however. Not one that can't be overcome obviously, she didn't win!

Only in Nascar is the car and driver weighed together. That is why it is only an advantage in open wheel racing.

The announcers said that Danica ran out of fuel on the last lap, so it was a certainty he wasn't going to make it all the way.
How come they don't have free re-fuels during cautions in Indy Car? (with the driver retaining position)
To: muawiyah
LOL! Yes, I can laugh at that. I knew you guys would want the picture. No, I don't have a link but I did see it on FOX News. The picture is real....could probably google for it. :)

A hundred pounds is a huge amount of weight in an Indy car. All one needs to do is measure the difference in speed between a fully fueled car, and a car running low on fuel to see the difference.
That being said, Robbie Gordon is acting like a fool and not helping his team at all. He needs to get over it and do the job he was hired to do.

According to media reports, Danica's crew was telling her to go slower from 226mph to 221 at the end to conserve fuel.
I guess she needed more caution laps...

I can't think of any racing organization that gives a free re-fuel like that. Not short track, F1, Nascar, Indy, SCORE off road racing, kart racing, etc. Pit strategy is part of the race
