MILWAUKEE - A peace activist who went to Iraq to serve as a "human shield" against the U.S. invasion is challenging $8,000 in federal fines. Ryan Clancy, 28, filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department in federal court Thursday.

The department alleges Clancy went to Iraq in violation of sanctions and offered his services to the Iraqi government to shield its facilities from possible military action.

Clancy was in Iraq from Jan. 28, 2003, to March 7, 2003, according the lawsuit. The United States attacked Iraq on March 19, 2003.

What's he doing back in the States? Was he afraid of being kidnapped and beheaded? Too bad the military couldn't find a way to keep him in Iraq.

He should have been charged with Treason and placed in front of the firing squad.

I'm an agreeable person.

If this guy doesn't think he should pay $8000 in fines, then he shouldn't.

Instead, he can work off the fines at a federal penitentiary at a rate of $3.00 per hour! BTW, he's limited to only 20-25 hours of work per week.

See, I told you. I'm an agreeable person! I'm all about compromise!

I dunno, when you think about it Didnt Jesse Jackson go to Cuba without permission? When does he pay his fine.. A sfar as I am concerned the fine should be ten times what it is , but why be selective in who pays.

This guy seems to like Iraq a great deal.

The govt should be willing to train him in doing social services in Ramadi or Fallujah.

Maybe we should forget about the fines, and just send him back to Iraq to be a human shield again. Of course, there are risks...

Because people scream treason every time someone runs a stop sign.

You can commit treason and be a Senator these days. I guess the Constitution means nothing any more.

Funny that none of the human shields volunteered to shield the polling places back in January.

He should be hung as a traitor and a war criminal, not fined.

Treason is described in the Constitution. People don't take the Constitution seriously anymore.
