Um... I'm not quite sure what that is

A Rump Ranger, Trouser Pilot, Uphill Gardner,Pillow Biter etc. etc.

Edgy director Lars von Trier startled the crowd at Cannes by referring to President Bush with an obscenity.

"Startled" the crowd? I thought cursing out Bush at Cannes brings out standing ovations.

Von Trier, who directed Nicole Kidman in “Dogville,”

A horrible, boring film. I want my three hours back.

“So much in Denmark is American. We are a nation under influence. America fills about 60 per cent of my brain. So, in fact, I am American.

Excuse me? When did you take the oath?

But I can’t go there to vote and I can’t change anything, because I am from a small country.

No, you idiot. It's because you're not a citizen.

It has been frequently noted that Mr. von Trier, a Dane, has never been to the United States.

CANNES, France - Lars von Trier still has not visited the United States,

Let's keep it this way, Lars.

This says more about Denmark than America. Are spotted owls nesting in the wooden shoes over there now?

"Manderlay"?

The only people who will go to see it will go because they think it's remake of "Rebecca".

I guess this idiot's mind is at least 50% full of America's movies.

but I'm sure he watched Fahrenheit 9/11, so he knows all about America and Mr. Bush.

“So much in Denmark is American. We are a nation under influence."
So it is our fault that you allow yourselves to be influenced? What a weak minded fool.

"America fills about 60 per cent of my brain."

The other 40% is apparently open space.

“The film is dense and complex, and can be read as a critique of America’s attempts at nation-building,”

Oh, how original, I'm sure noone has done anything like that before. < /sarcasm >

Anti-Americanism as a marketing ploy. Works in Europe. Hollywood and other artsy leftists will use anything to market their films. Spike Lee routinely uses racism to market his films. So, this is just another day in the life of Hollywood lefties who line their pockets with money generated from appeals to the darker nature of humanity, regardless of the consequences to society and others.

I really would give anything for this moron to be able to step back in time for week to the Denmark of 1941 during the Nazi occupation.
He would realize what real tyranny and oppression is and probably end up dangling from a lightpost, or full of fist-sized holes in a ditch just from a cross-eyed look at his oppressors.
He has absolutely no clue what American/British and the blood of good Danes was shed for so he could run around and make movies criticizing the people who want to spread the same opportunity he no enjoys.

I just returned from Europe Tuesday and the dislike of the United States is palpable. I think it's because they know we really do not care what they think, and consequently they wet the bed in a very histrionic fashion and discredit themselves (e.g., Galloway) entirely.

/back to not giving a rat's hind quarters about Europe. Out.

Lived in Denmark from 61-63. Danes loved Americans then. They hadn't forgotten occupation fifteen years earlier.

Went back in 73. They had started forgetting and were reverting to biting the hand that fed them. Arguments in every pub about us ugly Americans.

Went back in 83. Their love for middle eastern men had not yet hit home fully. They thought it was unique and very tolerant to allow their daughters to diddle these guys who were everywhere.

Fast forward to today. The Danes are really getting overwhelmed with their new dark skin occupiers but still keep screaming at Americans. Danish men like Lars the Arse have always had inferiority complex issues, wishing they too were like American men.

Just my opinion.

I sat through about 20 minutes of Dogville before shutting it off out of complete boredom.

Same here. The box makes it look like a "real movie", but it is actually a play on a stage that has been filmed.

There is a liberal guy in my office that liked it, so I guess that explains things...

So American influence from 4000 miles away is bad, but islamofaschism in their daughters bed is OK? What a bunch of putzs. BTW, Danish women are hot! Too bad they are giving it up to unwashed towelheaded camel-riding toothless misanthropes with an 8th century mindset.
