The sign on the marquee outside Showtime Cinemas in Radcliff
reads: "No Jane Fonda movie in this theater." More than 30
years after the war's end, Boutwell still bears a grudge. "I
trained a lot of pilots during the Vietnam conflict," he said.

bump / ping! :)

Hanoi Jane: Yesterday's Fiery Communist Revolutionary
She's today's very rich capitalist
(See also: http://www.usvetdsp.com/story8.htm)

Using her wealth and influence, she managed to garner support from American college campuses, advocating communism and encouraging rebellion and anarchy against the U.S. government. In a speech to Duke University students in 1970, Fonda told the gathering, "If you understood what Communism was, you would hope and pray on your knees that we would someday become Communist."

Kerry Heckled at Memorial Day Event

Excerpt:

Sen. John Kerry's record as an anti-war protester came back to haunt him on Memorial Day when he was confronted by a heckler as he tried to pay his respects to a soldier killed in the Vietnam War.

"How much money are you getting to betray our POWs?" an unidentified middle-aged woman shouted as Kerry visited the Vietnam Veterans memorial on the Washington Mall.

"Are you paying tribute to all the people you spat on, Senator Kerry?" she added.

< snip >

The heckling episode served to underscore the resentment many veterans still feel towards Kerry from his days as a leader with the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, when he teamed up with anti-American actress Jane Fonda.

"The bad news is that movie rentals and purchases are going up. Most of them still get royalties off of that, I'm sure."

Not to mention Pay per view, HBO, Showtime, Broadcast and cable rights, and syndication. There wouldn't be any movies made these days if studios had to depend on theaters to make money.

9 out of ten movies don't even break even during the course of their theatrical runs. All the real money comes later. Theatrical runs are mainly for bragging rights and publicity. Many movies are released directly to DVD and somehow still manage to make money.

OH? Hitting a curve ball is a heck of a lot harder than acting in a movie. IAC, if they had simply brought up the best talent from the minors, within a few years the quality of play would have been the same as before. Like MFB when the American league  was first started up.

Really? I went to a middle school baseball game the other day. The pitcher was throwing a pretty good curve, but was still getting hit at times.

Two days later, I went to an 8th grade theatrical production. While the kids did a good job, it was no closer to Broadway or Hollywood than those kids playing baseball were to the major leagues.

Louisville is just 30 miles up the road from Radcliff.

I think that makes my point. How many people are going to drive 30 miles to see Jane Fonda as opposed to the other movies which are showing just down the street. Maybe a whole bunch but I doubt it.

I'm not so sure. Say what you will, leftists are generally more creative and better at the arts. It's not an absolute truth, but a generally true stereotype.

I can't imagine what evidence you would have to back that claim up, even as a general stereotype. For one thing, most of the big players in the entertainment industry today are mediocre at best. This film, Moster-in-Law, is a perfect example. J-Lo, despite being an incredibly voluptuous woman, is a horrible actress, yet she is in movie after movie (her music sucks too). So why is she cast so often? Simply because her name (and booty) recognition makes money, not because she has talent. I also have no doubt that the movie itself sucks beyond belief. Most movies today are just re-hashed plots redone over and over. Compare that to the golden age of Hollywood, when most prominent actors were (by comparison) conservative, and most movies interesting. Today's Hollywood allows only Leftists to prosper, and puts out mediocre crap as a result.

If we go even farther back, however, we see that the great artists, poets, playwrights, composers etc. were of a frame of mind that might be considered ultra-conservative by today's standards, in terms of religious conviction, self-reliance, moral views, etc.

E-town is so much prettier than Radcliff. I lived in Radcliff for six months when I first got married. What a dump! Couldn't wait to get on-post housing.

But some of the greatest were liberal for their day.

Agreed. E-town is a natural town. Radcliff grew at an unprecedented rate when Ft. Knox was established. It is a military town pure and simple.

I think the only reason Jane Fanda was not tried for treason is because the Viet Nam "consulting effort" was not a war declared by Congress under the constitution article 1-8-11.

I still think the reason they don't declare wars under that article is that many of their activities could yield treason charges.

Hats off to Mr. Boutwell!

You can kill two birds with one stone today...take the ticket money you would (or not LOL) spend on this movie and buy Team America: World Police on DVD. It's available today, and there is no possible way to stick your thumb in Hollywoods eye any deeper.

I understood your point, I was just taking issue with the lefty who was quoted. The comments were not directed at you.

It is bad business for him to book a film "beacuse he should" and then let customers decide if they don't want to go. He should weigh the dollars spent versus the dollars such a booking could potentially cost him. If he supported Jane Fonda (or Michael Moore) and wanted to stand on principle, he could do that too.

I have boycotted the local art theater chain that rallied behind Axis Mikey. They may not miss my dollars but they won't profit from them either.

(More than 30 years after the war's end, Boutwell still bears a grudge...Some of his students died from rounds fired from guns like the one Fonda visited during her anti-war trip.)

30 years after the war's end Boutwell's students are still dead. Gee, why would he hold a grudge?

Some prominent conservative actors on that list. People like Jimmy Stewart.

There is a blacklist in Hollywood against conservatives. I don't think we will ever know just how many good actors don't get the role because of their politics and so they remain unknowns or else shelter their politics and become famous as "undecideds".
