'That level of dialogue doesn't merit comment'
(CNN) -- A top U.S. civil rights figure on Saturday criticized Mexican President Vicente Fox's comment that Mexican immigrants to the United States take jobs "that not even blacks want to do."
The Rev. Jesse Jackson called the remark "a spurious comparison" with "ominous racial overtones."
A Mexican official defended Fox later in the day, saying his description was not meant as an insult.
"The president didn't make a declaration in the racist sense; of course there are those who interpret it in that way," Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Derbez told a reporter in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
According to Derbez, Fox was making the point that "Mexican migrants are making great contributions in the United States and that their role is a positive role."

I'm sure Bush spent all day long apologizing to Fox, as he was "forced" to sign a law he did not want.
"The president didn't make a declaration in the racist sense; of course there are those who interpret it in that way,"
Only leftists hope to get a pass from the media or the public when making racially obnoxious remarks.
How could it be anything other than racist? Why not say poor whites or Asians?
Who knows? Maybe the black backlash will finally stop this invasion?
Extraordinarily humorous.
When is everyone going to get it through their thick skulls that Hispanics aren't a race; they're a culture.
So, for once, Jesse may be on to something. Besides, anyone who has lived side-by-side with both groups know of the animosity that exixts between them. Except for Liberals, of course.
I agree. I'm caucasian and it didn't sound right to me.
"of course there are those that interpret it in that way"
In other words, people that THINK it is a racist remark are the racists? oh, yeah.....i get it....not
Jesse Jackson needs to lead the million man border patrol.
Like murdering police officers in cold blood...
And then hightailing it to Mexico, where they will never be brought to justice.
"The Rev. Jesse Jackson called the remark 'a spurious comparison' with 'ominous racial overtones.'"
Go get em' Jesse.
Stupid racist Mexican President.
Every once in a while, one of these comments which reflect the true nature of the views on race south of the border, slips past the media gatekeepers.
hehe
Not to mention it's clearly propaganda... Obviously the issue is the wages plus the fact they don't pay taxes. Illegal immigration is one of the worst things to happen to unskilled Americans -- black or otherwise.
I guess only whites are required to be pc about such matters.

Very true about Fox even demeaning his own citizens. I have several Mexican friends and they would not be pleased by that statement. Neither would my black friends, of course.
I agree 100%.
Vince Fox is a white racist.
Yes he did, go get him Jesse!
Didn't a Japanese prime minister get raked over the coals for saying something to the effect that the US is made backward due to its minorities?
Hadn't heard that. Interesting.
Sensitivity training is in order for Señor Fox.
Overtones!?! That is as much an overtone as Al Gore's makeup job during the 2000 debates.
...Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, who, in 1986, asserted that America was intellectually inferior to Japan "because of a considerable number of Blacks, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans."
Blacks are the stepping stones of the Hispanics.
Are blacks finally waking up to this fact?
National Council of La Raza
Maybe when they stop referring to themselves as "the race".
The term "Hispanic" is really a creation of the left. The purpose is really to meld numerous diverse Spanish speaking cultures into a politically powerful large group of angry victims that will naturally vote for Democrats.
I have often wondered if immigrants directly to the US from Spain and their descendents are "Hispanics".
Or what about Brazilians, who have nothing to do with Spain?
Or Latin American Indians?
I figured this one would bring "Rev-run" Race-Pimp out of his hole...
What a dumb post. Its impossiible that Vicente Fox made a racist statement about Blacks. Everyone knows that its only possible for White Males to make racist statements. Just ask Spike Lee.
Jesse ("the impregnator of many women to which he is not married") Jackson's comment is strange. Ususally, these racist minority thugs only attack white, male Christians and never one another. Don't worru, Vicente, Jesse didn't mean to hurt your feelings. That's the end of it!
"Who knows? Maybe the black backlash will finally stop this invasion?"
Dream on, pal. It would be nice though.
What is this frigging Fox after in the US, a Black/Hispanic race war?
Oh well, after all, the Fox is in the Bush hen (white) house.
I don't believe it. Minorities are fighting. Well, at least they're not blaming white folk (this time).
(Like murdering police officers in cold blood... )
Even if there were true for a handful of cases (I'm not even sure that is true), you are making a huge over-generalization over all Mexicans who are here. I hope we don't move from attacking the issue to attacking Mexicans. Apart from the fact that most of them are law-abiding citizens, their social values make them natural allies to Conservatives if we are not seen as attacking them while working out a reasonable solution that protects the sovereignty of the US.

"Vincente Fox, starring in, "CLUELESS IV, SOUTH OF THE BORDER".
LOL
Hmm, that's a thought.
Blech
And when contrasted with the original statement, this also comes off as racist. It is saying that blacks contributions are not (or not as) positive. Keep digging; I like watching the hole deepen.
Pass the popcorn, please.
