Hillary Clinton makes Ohio stop
Senator teams with Cleveland's Tubbs Jones on voting reform act that would make major changes
By Martin Cizmar
Beacon Journal staff writer
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS - Before the United States can encourage democracy in other nations, it needs to improve its own process, Sen. Hillary Clinton told an area audience Saturday.
``We cannot be exporting democracy to places like Iraq and Afghanistan when we don't have democracy at home,'' the New York Democrat said at an election reform forum at Warrensville Heights High School gymnasium in suburban Cleveland.
Clinton joined U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Cleveland, in front of a crowd organizers estimated at 1,500 to stump for a voting reform bill they are co-sponsoring.
The Count Every Vote Act, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in February, would require major changes to the electoral process.
Details of the bill include requiring all voting systems to produce a paper record, make Election Day a national holiday, require every state to offer no-excuse absentee ballots in federal elections and allow individuals to register for federal elections on Election Day.
Clinton said the measures are needed to ensure the integrity of the voting process after controversies in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

Gee, that's some conspiracy there. They got the local Dems to screw their own constituents. Wow.
How did she make Ohio stop? Stop what? I thought I detected a pig pen like odor coming out of the east.
Make all the rules you want as long as you include the purple ink.
What in the hell is she oinking about?
Details of the bill include requiring all voting systems to produce a paper record, make Election Day a national holiday, require every state to offer no-excuse absentee ballots in federal elections and allow individuals to register for federal elections on Election Day.
Yeah that should get her some votes when she run's in 2008..Everyone loves a holiday.
'require every state to offer no-excuse absentee ballots'
but...but...that would mean that the MILITARY ballots might be counted without a fight??? nah, she can't have thought about THAT.....

And where is the Republican response? The GOP is blowing it big time. At every stop someone from that State's GOP organization should rebut her tripe. Frame the issue properly. Remind the electorate of her past positions. Minimize her at every turn. Add insult to injury by not doing it with a national figure.
I still don't think she can puke this nonsense for the next three years - and still have a chance at the White House.
The Ohio GOP is such a mess right now, it isnt funny.
They need Blackwell to become Governor so badly here....
She is so ugly, she has to sneak up on a glass to get a drink of water.
Her face stops Bill's pendulum cold!
That's why he's in NY while she's in DC.
Gee...from the same mouth that said New Yorkers shouldn't have to produce ID when voting....because it's inconvenient.
You underestimate the power of a compromised media and overestimate the intelligence of the American voter.
DFU says there's some good stuff coming, and we 'd better be ready...
We probably should aggressively agree with complaints that voting is flawed in Democrat areas and that with this situation they cannot win.
No point in them showing up, given this situation.
Look, Hillary must be stopped. Nothing else matters. Not borders, not Social Security, nothing. Rudi has to run for and take her seat in the Senate in 2006. It's the only way to undercut her.
Well we all know Hillary she says one thing and means another..Just to get the votes you know!
Guy Marentette, 58, a retiree from Cuyahoga Falls, agreed. Although Marentette can't vote because he's a Canadian citizen, he wants to see changes in the American political process. Then STFU jerkweed!
Akron resident Eileen Matias wants the paper trail to be the only trail. The 45-year-old artist said she was suspicious about the results of the 2004 presidential election and thinks lawmakers should ban electronic voting machines.
"I don't trust anything with computers," she said. "I'm very much for the old-fashioned way."
Uh, no, you're not 'old fashioned', you're paranoid and basically just mentally ill. Then again, you are a Democrat aren't you.
A student from Kenyon College also spoke at the forum. Matt Siegel described conditions at the liberal arts college of only two voting machines for 1,300 registered voters.
"We had 10- to 12-hour lines outside in the rain, through crowded narrow hallways and through a hot gymnasium making voting tedious and extremely uncomfortable," he said. "We binded together as a community."
10-12 hour lines? That's Bull...loney. And you poor baby, voting is tedious - awwwwww, call your mommy. However I'm glad you 'binded'. Did you sing Kumbaya?
"Individuals?" Do I dare ask what that means? As not in 'couples' or is that a new cattle call buzzword for illegals to vote?
What's Ohio doing to make Hitlery upset?
Hillary spoke??...BURP!
"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." - Hillary Rodham Clinton June 2004

Let's see. No excuses, huh. You mean like:
1. That's the third ballot I've seen with your name on it.
2. That home address doesn't exist...
3. Fifteen absentee ballots sent to the same address?
4. Ma'am, you died 6 years ago.
5. But, Ma'am, you're not a U.S. Citizen...
And so, the list goes on for the Deathocrat voting electorate. Remember, no-excuse means no legal control or recourse. It's no wonder such a corrupt idea comes from Queen Hillary!
:)
Aw, you beat me!
So your going to stop the phony filibuster and let every Senator vote??
Pray for W and Our Troops
Ohio is one of the keys to her. Electorally, she has a shot at Ohio and New Mexico.
Truth in Headlines ... finally. As Nick Danger said, Hillary's excreable personna makes clocks stop and fleas barf.
Those negatives are way too high
The only way I can see Hillary overcoming those is if the Republicans are doing so badly nationally that anyone could beat them.
----
Hillary has no shot in Hell of winning....
----
Thank you too. NO chance of winning...none. nt
----
The righties hate her for being female and having political power. The lefties are ticked off by her support of the war and the PATRIOT Act.
----
She doesn't look virginal, earth mothery or grandmotherly, so she's threatning in some poeple's eyes. She wears pants. She's direct and a maybe a bit abrasive in some people's eyes. She worked outside the home, and her marriage is imperfect and unconventional.
She's a social conservative's nightmare, and most seniors fairly conservative on social issues. We have to keep the senors happy, they're just about the only group you can safely count on for a good turnout.
----
Hillary is "their" candidate, not ours.
Every right-wing radio station in the country is pushing for Hillary to get the democratic nomination. Bloomberg brings it up daily. Ask yourself, why? She's not our candidate, she's their "pick" for us. Because they know she can't win and just the mention of her name energizes the republican base. Don't fall for their crap.
----
Hillary is NOT polarizing -- She is just plain hated ...
by Democrats and republicans alike. If she were polarizing, then here effect on the electorate would be to split it, Dems from repugs, or left from right. She just rubs many people the wrong way, including me, and I'm a NY Democrat. The main reason I dislike her is that she stands for absolutely nothing except her own ambition. Also, I will never, ever forget the health care reform fiasco, which was entirely her fault. The problem with health care is the insurance companies. They oppress both patients and doctors. So what did Hillary do? She creates a super secret reform process that includes ONLY insurance companies and excludes doctors and patient advocates. Those are her instincts. I will definitely get involved in local political action in NY to make sure she does not win the NY primary.
----
I would have to agree that Hillary serves her own ambition first. I don't trust her. Simple as that. If it came down to a choice between Hillary and one of the Neo-con apes, I'd choose her, but I'd hate myself in the morning.
----
I think she would take a lot of states that Kerry took. However, we need a candidate in '08 that can turn some of the red states on '04 to blue in '08. You think Hillary could ever take Texas, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, etc.? If so then you're living in a fantasy world.
----
With Hillary you get all the negatives of running a candidate who people think is a socialist, but in reality would be the farther to the right than either Kerry or Gore. I see no advantage in running her. She's not well liked. Not only that, but she's not very liberal. Hey, if we're goin to run a freakin centrist, I'd rather have a chance in winning. I don't see it happening with Hillary.
"We cannot be exporting democracy to places like Iraq and Afghanistan when we don't have democracy at home,..."
likewise for the newspapers and tv.
it's a laugh to watch the democrat-contolled media carp about the lack of a free press abroad, when they control the media in this country.
Yeah, but the RATS underground are always wrong. And, they are delusional.
And .. you can expect the dems to spend a lot of money in OH this campaign because there is a BLACK REPUBLICAN - Secretary of State - running for Gov - and they will want to destroy him like they have every other black repub.
Musta been at the exercise yard at the Warrensville Work House registering voters.
Right, Hillary, we need to get you and the likes of you out of the democratic process; because your surely isn't.
Heaven Forbid! Just when we got rid of the stench of Kerry here in Ohio, looks like Hillary's going to make this her second home...yuck! Like she gives a hill of beans about what happens here in the Buckeye state! I suppose next she'll be donning hunting garb like Kerry did to show that she's "one of us".
Sorry Doug, meant to put your quote ^ in italics.
"Details of the bill include requiring all voting systems to produce a paper record..."
Isn't this the norm?
"...make Election Day a national holiday..."
Great! MORE Paid Holidays for State and Federal workers at MY expense! I'll vote for THAT!
"...require every state to offer no-excuse absentee ballots in federal elections and allow individuals to register for federal elections on Election Day."
Well, good luck on that. Our Dem Governor is vetoing anything our Republican Congress puts before him on cleaning up the voting process in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has same-day registration for all elections, and it's working just fine to promote Democratic voter fraud in our state.
Why you messin' with a Good Thing, Beast? Oh, that's RIGHT. You're the SMARTEST woman in the world, so you know best. Dang. Nearly forgot that. Beg your pardon, Ma'am. /sarcasm
What in the hell is she oinking about
Just race-baiting the credulous, among the Black community. It's a last ditch strategy this early. They must be feeling desperate..
That kinda goes without saying. But when half the RATS gang up against the Beast? All is not well in RATville...
From the Ohio News Network -
Hillary Clinton's Cleveland Visit Important For Run For President
May 1, 2005
Hillary Clinton appeared as part of a get-to-know-me tour this weekend after a visit toWisconsin and Ohio.
Although she won't say whether she will run for the White House in four years, she may be at least laying the groundwork in the Buckeye state.
At the gala, Clinton was staying focused on her shared experiences with the legal community. "There were so many times when being a legal aid lawyer really felt like I was being a warrior for justice," Clinton said.
Although politics wasn't directly talked about, it was present. That's because the first steps toward building the political bridges that lead to the White House are often made through goodwill visits.
"Especially if you come back on a regular basis, it's all good. It all factors into having and building networking and especially votes in the future," Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy DiMora said. Ohio will again be an important state in the 2008 race for president. "It's up for grabs and the thing we need to keep in mind is we don't have to wait to 2006 or 2008, there are elections going on right now. There are issues, there are school levies and that's what we want to keep people involved in being engaged in that process," said Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.
Interestingly, the online betting site that correctly picked who would be pope has Clinton as the 4-1 favorite for president in 2008.
Treachary is the way of the Sith errm Left.
``We cannot be exporting democracy to places like Iraq and Afghanistan when we don't have democracy at home,'' the New York Democrat said
As an Elected Senator of this country, she truly utters stunningly fascinating sentences.
