The minutemen say they stopped 60,000 illegal immigrants from crossing the border. The month started with protests and ended today, peacefully.
"It's been phenomenal, life changing experience really." Minuteman Mitch Geiger spent 16 days in April patrolling the Arizona/ Mexico border.
"The thing I'm proudest of is the fact there was really no confrontation, no incidents," Geiger said.
With no incidents, the Minutemen claim they stopped thousands of border crossers.
"A crowd of mostly senior citizens sitting in lawn chairs armed with binoculars and cell phones, the things they could accomplish," Geiger said. "I'm proud to have been a part of it."
With a final rally, the Arizona portion of the minuteman project comes to a close. The minutemen gathered in Cochise County for the final send off.
"This could not have been done without you, we did this, we the people," Chris Simcox said.
Minuteman organizer Chris Simcox had a statement for the U.S. Government. "We the people are tired of waiting for you to lead. We are going to lead our nation in an effort to secure our borders."
Simcox says the only honorable thing for the government to do at this point, relieve the Minutemen of their duties. "By sending out Humvees filled with National Guard and military troops to protect our borders, no compromise."
Along with the Minutemen, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, believes the month long patrol was a success. "They stuck to the game plan and they didn't step out of bounds of that."
But it's not just the authorities praising the Minutemen, Cochise County rancher Joe Scelso hates to see them go. "It's been quietest and most peaceful, we've had for the last eight years."
According to the Minutemen, this is just the beginning. They claim to have 20,000 new volunteers ready to stand up and protect the border, North and South. "Can't wait to meet them all , can't wait to shake their hands and say welcome to the family," Mitch Geiger said.
The Minuteman Project now heads to California. They hope to have the border secure by June 1st.
They should not have ended it. It lets the authorities off the hook.
CARE ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
BE A CITIZEN - NOT A SPECTATOR!!!

That is the essence of what it means to be an American. Don't sit around and whine about how the government isn't doing something about the problem, take the lead to solve the problem.
It was always planned to end now. These people do have lives and responsibilities.
BIG APPRECIATIVE BUMP TO YOU BOTH!
well said and amen
Job well done. Carry on.
Bravo Zulu!

One gutsy lady, a pediatric nerosurgeon, slept in her sleeping bag next to one of the culverts.
It's not the end. It is only the beginning. This marks only the end of the first mission and it was MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
This was most definitely MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. We appreciate what you all have done.
EITHER GOOD OR BAD WITH THE LARGEST IMPACT - After the first 4 months of 2005, who would you say is winning the Man of the Year?
(63%) Jim Gilchrist, Chris Simcox & the Minutemen
(13%) President Bush
(13%) Tom Delay
(13%) Pope John Paul II & Pope Benedict XVI
(0%) Bill Clinton - $10 million to AIDS research
(0%) Barry Bonds & the Steroids Ball Player
We appreciate everything you all have done. I didn't mean to leave you out in the above post.

And some GD respect and recognition from the President! I and almost
everyone I know thank you for your unpaid service to our country.
Amen, brother
Ping to a job well done, by a group of real Americans.
Plenty of funds available in the Department of Homeland Security to start paying MinuteMen.
You will be most welcome. I for one am looking forward to some serious media attention being paid to the issues at our border here in the Lower Left Corner.
Thank you to this wonderful band of patriots.
I've got a list of about 8 central Texans that are keen to volunteer for a Texas effort. Not so oddly, one is a recent immigrant himself who's parents worked their asses off to come here legally. Miguel is the kind of person we WANT coming here.
